« on: Sunday 15 October 23 14:47 BST (UK)  »
Hello! I would be very grateful if anyone is able to help decipher my x5 great-grandfather's will from 1852 - I can read some of it but I seem to be struggling a bit with the handwriting.

Thank you in advance!

I have come across a pension ledger for my great-grandfather however I am unsure of what the abbreviations in the records relate to.

If anyone is able to shed some light on these it would be much appreciated!

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Really Confused!!
« on: Friday 15 March 13 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hi, I was looking at a 1901 census record and discovered that my ancestor (Elizabeth Middleton b.1869) married a man called Tom Spyver (a surname that I have never heard of) but I cannot find a marriage record for either of them and can find neither of them in 1991 or after 1901. I can find Elizabeth with her family before. Is Spyver a real surname? What else could his surname be?

Lancashire / Confused - Disappearing Descendent
« on: Friday 08 February 13 16:08 GMT (UK)  »
I have recently found my great great great grandfather James Holland after years of searching for him. He was born c. 1836 in either Liverpool or Manchester (I think). He married Mary Burrows (born 1837) on 21st June 1856 in Manchester. It lists his father as John Holland, a butcher, and her's Henry Burrows, a cotton twister. I found a record of his marriage but not his birth or his death and throughout his life he seems to disappear. I cannot find him in the 1841 or 1851 census, I found him in 1861 living in Manchester with his wife and children, but he disappears again after that (probably because he had died by then). I would really appreciate any advice or help.

Europe / Did my ancestor run off to France?
« on: Sunday 07 October 12 21:48 BST (UK)  »
A rumour has been passed down through my family that my ancestor Francis Virgo Minchin (born 18/09/1921 in Westminster, London) ran off to France with his sons (except one that was disabled) with funds he had embezzled from his place of work. This was after he was discovered having an affair with a married woman. Is there any way I can prove this? I tried to find emigration records, but no such luck, and I can't find his death, I would appreciate any help.

Census and Resource Discussion / Why was he baptised twice?
« on: Sunday 30 September 12 20:16 BST (UK)  »
I have found 2 records of my ancestor James Burland being baptised on 3rd October 1786, once in Pontefract, Yorkshire and once in Knottingley, Yorkshire. On the Pontefract baptism it listed both of his parents and on the Knottingley one it only listed his father. Was he baptised twice in one day?
