Scotland / scottish ancestor (Mark Adams) b.1816?
« on: Monday 11 March 19 16:15 GMT (UK)  »
has anyone any ideas how I can trace where my Scottish Great Great Grandfather was born?
I found him first of all in 1841 in the England census stating Scotland as his Birthplace. He later married in England and some of his children were born in the Chester area. However one of the later children, William Adams was born in Scotland about 1845/46, again no area is mentioned and I haven't been able to trace his Birth. His Mother was Elizabeth or Eliza, any help would be appreciated.

Family History Beginners Board / 1871 census

On the 1871 census, my Great Great Grandad Mark Adams who was living in Chester is said to have lost his Left Hand. As he was a Tailor by profession I'm wondering if this was caused by an accident. Anyone any ideas how to find out if this would have been reported anywhere, papers etc. I've looked at 1851 and 1861 census but can't find a part for  disability.  The other thing is, he was born in Scotland, but which area? Any help very welome.  :)

Herefordshire / Mark Adams b.!816 and son John Adams b.1850 in Hereford
« on: Thursday 24 September 15 17:57 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for the marriage of Mark Adam/s to Elizabeth probably about 1837-1840's. Their first child Martha was born in 1837 in Hereford.  I've found them on the 1851 census living in Pipe Lane, Hereford. John the youngest son was born in 1850 in Hereford and I've found two entries in Family Search Parish records,  The first on is John Adams christened on the 15.8.1850 at St.John the Baptist, and the second is John Adams b. 31.7.1850, christened 11.8.1850 at St.Nicholas-Wesleyan, Hereford. Has anyone any ideas whether a child would be christened in two different churches as both sets of parents are Mark and Elizabeth Adams. Could these be two different people.  Thanks for any help.

Hello everyone, it's a while since I posted on this site, but wonder if anyone can tell me where I can locate the records for Nantwich workhouse.  I've just had my Great Grandad's Birth cert.  James Adams, which states that he was born here in 1844 along with his twin Brother Charles.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / James Adams b. 1844 Cheshire
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 15:48 GMT (UK)  »

Does anyone have any clues about the following family found in the 1871 census:

James Adams b. 1844 Tailor, Nantwich
Mary (Wife     b.1844           Diddleston, Shropshire
James Strange Stepson b.1864 Chester
Ann Strange Stepdaughter b.1866 Chester
Mary E Adams daugther b.1868 Chester

Adress  15, Grape Lane, St.Michael Le Belfrey, York.

I've posted before on Lancashire page as it was suggested that this family could have had a change of name to Bell which is the family I'm researching.  The family are very similar and are in Manchester in 1881.  How can I find if there was definitely a change of name from Adams to Bell

Cheshire / James Adams b. 1844 Cheshire

James Adams married Mary Strange in Great Boughton in 1867.  We find them on the 1871 in Census in York with 2 stepchildren James Strange b. 1864 and Mary Strange 1866 and also a daughter Mary E Adams b. 1868 all born Great Boughton.  I can find no trace of the family on the 1881 census but have found a family called Bell on the 1881 census living in Kingston upon Hull. All of the children are now called Bell. but the ages, places of birth etc. coincide with the Adams family and I wonder if there has been a change of name for some reason.  One of the children Robert Bell was baptised in Manchester in 1876.  Any ideas of how I can trace this family between 1871 and 1876.

Lancashire / Robert Bell b.1876 Manchester

Can anyone help, I'm looking for the birth certificate of Robert Bell probably born in Manchester in 1876.
I've found his Baptism at St.Matthews Church, Manchester on 10 September 1876, He was baptised with two brothers, Thomas Adam and John William Adam but can find no trace of these two brothers on the 1881 census when the family had moved to Kingston upon Hull.  His father and mother were James and Mary and they lived in Eltoft street, Manchester at the time, and his Father was a Bill Poster.  I've sent several times to Manchester record office for B.C. without success. I'd be grateful for any help with this family. AlmaB.
