Shropshire / Wrights living/born in Stoke St Milborough in 1823 - 1828
« on: Thursday 02 June 22 19:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a DNA match on MyHeritage who descends from an Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Abigail Wright. Elizabeth was born in Stoke St. Milborough, and my direct male line comes from Stoke St. Milborough, so I believe that I am related somehow to this family. I also have a number of Wrights appearing in my Y-chromosome matches (FTDNA) as far-distant relatives. It is possible, though not proven, therefore, that the father of my ancestor Thomas Bridgwater (b.c. 1823) is a Wright who is related to Elizabeth Wright. Since Thomas has a brother called William, also illegitimate, I'm assuming Thomas or William might be relevant first names.

Can anyone find any information on the males in the family of Elizabeth Wright, daughter of Abigail Wright, who could have been a potential father for Thomas Bridgwater circa 1823? So basically, where the Wright family (related in some way to Elizabeth Wright) were located and who they comprised in the 1820s. What I already know about Elizabeth Wright and Abigal Wright is below based on searching on familysearch.org.

I'm trying to figure out if my Anthony Lawton (mar. Ann Yates 4 Feb 1818 in Sedgley, Staffordshire) is the same person who matches this death register:

"Anthony Lawton
England and Wales Death Registration Index 1837-2007
Event Type:
Death
Registration District:
Dudley
Name:
Anthony Lawton
Death Date:
1846
Death Place:
Dudley, Staffordshire, England"

Also, I'm trying to figure out if he is the same person as this Anthony Lawton:

Anthony Lawton (ch 21 Aug 1796 Manchester, Lanchashire, England)

I'm not sure if I'm correct, but I think that Anthony Lawton is the son of Anthony Lawton ch. 18 Mar 1770 Keele, Staffordshire, England. So there is a connection to Staffordshire. It's just a bit anomolous that he would be christened in Manchester. Also, there is an Anthony Lawton who got married in Manchester:

Anthony Lawton
Sex:
Male
Spouse's Name:
Ellen Appleton
Spouse's Sex:
Female
Marriage Date:
23 Apr 1792
Marriage Place:
Manchester, Lancashire, England

If I can figure out how Manchester, Sedgley and Keele are all connected, that would be interesting. If this is correct, I've tried to reconstruct the male line as follows:

Edward Lawton = Mary Pickerin (d. 1687)
John Lawton (ch 3 May 1681 Keele) = Sarah Dale
William Lawton (ch 23 August 1719 Wolstanton, d. 1803) = Elisabeth
Joseph Lawton (ch 22 Jan 1748 Keele) = Anne Ward
Anthony Lawton (ch 18 Mar 1770 Keele, Staffordshire, England) = Ellen Appleton
Anthony Lawton (ch 21 Aug 1796 Manchester, Lanchashire, England) = Jane Yates
Sampson Lawton (abt 1826 Kingswinford, Staffordshire) = Phoebe Cooper

England / 1524 Tax subsidy of Henry VIII
« on: Monday 03 October 11 22:36 BST (UK)  »
Greetings,

Does anyone have a copy of or access to the 1524 Tax subsidy of Henry VIII (Hereford Taxes in  the reign of Henry VIII by Michael Faraday ISBN 0-9505823-2-8)?

Apparently, there is some mention of Gyles Grubb (buried in 1542 in Bromyard, Herefordshire) and I would like further details.

Best wishes,

Nicholas J. Bridgewater

Hi,

I'm looking for information on Mary Wilkes  who married Thomas Grub in in Bucknell, Shropshire on the 31st of July 1763. Information on her parents or siblings would be helpful.

They had a son named Thomas Grub who was christened on the 5th of May 1764 in Stoke St. Milborough. They had a daughter named Esther Grub, christened on the 8 Dec. 1765 in Stoke. They also had a daughter named Jane Grub, christened on the 15th of May 1768.

Hello,

I am looking for Thomas Grub (2) born circa 1763 and christened in Stoke St. Milborough on the 5th of May 1764 in Stoke St. Milborough, the son of Thomas Grub (1) and Mary Wilkes. He had a sister named Esther Grub, christened on the 8 Dec. 1765 in Stoke. He also had a sister named Jane Grub, christened on the 15th of May 1768.

I am not entirely sure if I am related to him, but I am investigating whether he is the illegitimate father of Thomas Bridgewater, born c. 1823 to Hannah Bridgwaters, who was a servant. I already have information on Thomas Bridgwater and Hannah. She later married and became Hannah Lloyd. If Thomas Grub (2) was her master, it is very possible he could have been the father of Thomas Bridgwater, but I have no information on who her master was. However, perhaps the father of Thomas Bridgwater was his son, also named Thomas Grub (3) and christened in 1793 in Diddlebury.

The reason I suspect Thomas Grub is because I have taken a Y-chromosome DNA test and found a relative in America within 9 generations from my male line with the surname Grubb.

So any information I can find on these Thomas Grubs in the 1841 or 1851 and possibly 1861 censuses would be helpful. If there's anyway I can find out his occupation and whether he was wealthy enough to have servants, that would be great.

Nicholas J. Bridgewater (or perhaps truly Grubb?? I don't know!)

Shropshire Lookup Requests / BVRI/Parish Records Bitterley c. 1805 "George LLOYD"
« on: Wednesday 10 January 07 01:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm looking for a George LLOYD, born about 1805 in Bitterley, Shropshire, England. I don't have any information on when he was christened or when he died. On 8 Nov 1828 he married Hannah BRIDGWATER(S) in Bitterley. His occupation was agricultural labourer and he appears (with wife and kids) in the 1841 census in Madeley, in the 1851 census in Linley and in the 1861 census in Aston. After that, I don't know what happened to him.

The census records indicate that he was born in Bitterley, so I'd be interested in finding his christening record.

Hi,

I'm looking for my Skerrett ancestors, also spelled SKERRATT. I've tried IGI, but the information is a bit sketchy. I'm descended from Elizabeth SKERRETT who married Daniel HOPLEY (b.c. 1780) on 23 Aug 1803 in Wybunbury, Cheshire.

Elizabeth was born in 1770. Her father was James SKERRET who was christened on 15 May 1743 in Wybunbury. I don't know who Elizabeth's mother was.

James's father was Thomas SKERRATT, who was christened 20 July 1718 in Wybunbury, son of Robert SKERRATT.

If anyone has any info on who these people married or further details on their ancestry, that would be most helpful.

Thanks,

Nicholas J. Bridgewater
