Armagh / GILLESPIE College St National School
« on: Monday 27 March 06 21:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Looking for information on Alfred Blackley GILLESPIE who taught at the College St National School  in Armagh city from 1897 to 1914. His wife was Mary Hutton GILLESPIE. They had 7 children: John, Grace, Alfred, Harold, Beth, George and Mary (Mollie) born between 1896 and 1910. They immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1914. He was a Mason and active in the First Presbyterian Church in Armagh. He was my great grandfather.

Is the school still standing?, the church? I have addresses at 11 Mall View Terrace and Lisinally Lane. Would they still be there? I'll be visiting in May.

Thank you

My gt gt grandfather, James GAMBLE was from Polintamny near Ballymoney. I have a picture of the cottage and although I know I'm dreaming to think that I may actually find the cottage I will be travelling to Ballymoney in May and I can't seem to locate Polintemny on a map. Would anyone be able to help. Also a townland called Claghey near Ballymoney where his wife, Martha ADAMS was born. They were married 15 May 1846.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / JANZEN Woolich graves
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 15:32 BST (UK)  »
Looking for suggestions to find Herrmann JANZEN's grave in Woolich. His  death certificate states he died 5 Aug 1973 in Woolich. His address is given as 1 Queen Street. He was an engine fitter and died of an infection of the femur - industrial accident perhaps. I found him and his family in the 1871 census at 70 Church Street in Woolich under the mis-transcribed name of "JANGER". He was born in Prussia around 1843. He was married in Wolverton, Bucks to Jane ARNOLD, 21 Jul 1868 in the Catholic Church and moved to Woolich between 1870 and 1872. Two children, John Bernard born 1870 and Katherine Sarah (my great grandmother) in 1872. HIs father's name was John.

I'm hoping to find his grave to get more information on his birth in Prussia. There are just too many Herrmann JANZEN's in Prussia to make an educated guess. I've tried the Dockland's Ancestors website without luck. Any other suggestions would be very welcome. thank you

Buteshire / MCGREGOR, gardener, Kingarth
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 05:28 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for information on the family of Daniel MCGREGOR, born circa 1815 in Cambleton, Argyll, married in 1829 to Elizabeth (Betsey) MCLEOREN born circa 1814 in Southend, Argyll. They are in the 1841 census in Kerrycroy Village in Kingarth, in 1851 in Birgadale Buts, can't find them in 1861 and then he shows as a widower in 1871 at Cottage at Piperhall. His son Alexander born circa 1835 is my gt gt grandfather. Alexander was a blacksmith and moved to Glasgow where he married and raised his family, one of which came to Canada.

My grandfather's papers stated that Daniel was the head gardener at the Bute Estate, but the census says that he was a gardener's  labourer. I've contacted the Estate many months ago for any information, but have received no reply.
Any ideas on how I might pursue this investigation?

Thanks for any help.

Buckinghamshire / ARNOLD Bradwell / Wolverton
« on: Friday 12 August 05 19:09 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information on Isaac ARNOLD born circa 1820 in Bradwell. Eldest son of John ARNOLD (25 Mar 1797 to 29 Jan 1880) and Charlotte DELAFIELD (died circa 1854).  I have census from 1861 and 1871 only and his name on his daughter Jane's marriage certificate (21 Jul 1868 registered in Newport Pagnell).  Isaac seems to be a bit of a black sheep or a lost soul as I have extensive family records of his sibbling but nothing on him ( and he is my gt gt gt grandfather). thank you for any help.
