« on: Friday 29 December 17 20:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Looking for some help with tracing my gg grandfather Stephen Lakeman who was a coffee planter in Ceylon in the 1840s/1850s. He died a bankrupt sometime after 1856.
Also are BDM records available for Ceylon?

Other Countries / Lakemans Ceylon

Hi,
I have currently hit a brick wall with my great great grandfather Stephen Lakeman. He was a coffee planter in Ceylon in the 1840s. He was married to Emma Charlotte Sanders and they had 5 children including my g grandfather Frederick Sanders Lakeman.
Stephen died a bankrupt in Ceylon around 1860 and his wife died in London soon after. His children were raised in a school for orphaned children and Fred returned to Ceylon later where he married Amy Louisa Barker in 1884. Amy was the daughter of Thomas Barker manager of the New Oriental Hotel Galle. Two of their children were born in Ceylon, Winifred Eleanor and Harold Leslie.
Any further help would be appreciated.

Roxburghshire / William Armstrong/Helen Riddell

Hi

Am new to this forum and thought I would post about my brickwall.

My gg grandfather William Armstrong was born in Roxburghshire iin August 1835, the son of William Armstrong (b around 1814) and Susan Tait. I have never been able to find a marriage for William and Susan and in 1841 they were living in Yetholm. In 1851 they were living in Berwickshire and the census states that William was born in Kelso and Susan was born in Linton. By 1861 the family had moved to England.

I think that William may be the son of William Armstrong and Helen Riddell (Riddle), married in Kelso in 1812. William was born in July 1813 which would fit with the ages quoted on the census. I have no idea as to Susan's parents. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Ewan
