Dear All

I discovered last year that I have a great great grandfather from Belfast having received his military records.  He was born in Belfast around 1827.  His father is listed as David Smith a mechanic. George served in the Royal Artillery and married in Norwich 1857. His military records name a part of Antrim called Shankhill.

Would much appreciate any lookup for George, David Smith and their family.

His military records lists that he served in Lisburn Antrim in 1847.

Last piece of information I have is that when George left the army the address given “Intended place Of residence: Durham Street Belfast” dated 13 April 1869.

I can’t trace his birth or any family information for his paternal or maternal family in Ireland and it’s been a dead end for 10 years.  An AncestryDNA test hasn’t yielding anything either.

Wonder if you are able to lookup for me and see if I can over come the roadblock?

Armed Forces / Royal Artillery- request for help tracing Smith, George
« on: Sunday 14 March 21 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
The chat room users suggest I post a request for help tracing an ancestor from the military which has puzzled me for years.

George Smith married Caroline in England sometime before or on 1862.  He was a soldier in the Royal Artillery.

His son George Arthur Smith was born in England 1862 (Scottish census records 1891, 1901 and 1911).  He relocated from England to Old Monklands, Scotland and married Margaret Cameron on 1 June 1892.

I cannot not trace the origins of the George Smith senior family in England.

The marriage certificate of The son list the father and mother having been deceased in 1892. The father’s occupation is listed as a soldier in Royal Artillery.  Presumably George Smith senior died between 1862 to 1892.  Unfortunately the maiden name of his mother is not really legible but did look like McLennon. But the death certificate of the George junior and his marriage certificate give different looking maiden names of the mother.

Any help you can provide me tracing the mother and father - possibly from or around Lancashire- would be much appreciated.

Extracts from the death certificate 1923 and marriage certificate 1892 are from Scotland’s People.

Lanarkshire / Joesph Thomson and Keziah McBride possibly Kesiah McBride
« on: Saturday 19 April 14 02:21 BST (UK)  »
Hello friends
I have come up against a dead end.

Have traced the death certificate of Elizabeth Taylor maiden name Thomson. She died aged 35 on 9 December 1950 although I can't actually read the exact cause of death.  Her parents are noted as Joesph Thomson and Keziah McBride (deceased).

I can't seem to trace either of these parents or their lineage or siblings.  I can't work out Joesph Taylor's occupation either.

Does anyone have any idea? Possibly Northern Ireland connection.

Does anyone have a connection with the family?

Ayrshire / West Kilbride - Christina Wilson and Hugh Hunter
« on: Monday 26 November 12 01:33 GMT (UK)  »
Found this site by chance.  I'm pretty new to researching my family tree but the surnames of Hunter and Wilson from West Kilbride feature heavily in the papers I have found so far.  Great grand parents Christina Wilson (father David Wilson and Margaret Harvey Law (Wilson) Hugh Hunter (father Thomas Hunter and mother Mary Kean (Hunter).  There is a Quintin Wilson with the same parents as Christina Wilson.  David Wilson's parents were William Wilson and Janet Richmond (Wilson) both married in West Kilbride. Janet Richmond (Wilson) mother was Agnes Craig and father Thomas Richmond.  Interestingly William Wilson's father was William Wilson and Agnes Craig Wilson.  I'm wondering how this can be other than some form of change in relationship.  William Wilson's father was Quentin Wilson and his mother was Hannah McGee.

Can anyone help with the siblings of Christina Wilson and Hugh Hunter?  There is some thought she was orphaned around the age 9 and siblings killed in a house fire but can find no evidence of this?

Also interested in the Barbour, Craig, Law, Stalker, Hunter, Wilson, Kean and Richmond families in West Kilbride 1740 - 1900.
