Bedfordshire / Brickwall - Isabella J Maile, Biggleswade
« on: Monday 27 February 17 15:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I've hit a stubborn brickwall that I can't break through.

Isabella Janet Maile married Charles Plant 06/09/1892 at Biggleswade. Marriage record puts her date of birth as 1871 and father's name as Frank Maile.

I have not be able to find Isabella in any of the census records.

Charles Plant died of TB in 1893 and their baby daughter died in 1894.

I found this death record of Frank Maile;

Surname    First name(s)    Age    District    Vol    Page
Deaths Mar 1894   (>99%)
Maile    Frank    53    Biggleswade    3b   263

I purchased the death cert and it says that he was a pensioner who died at Biggleswade. Informant was the certificate received from Mark Whyley, Coroner for the County of Bedford following inquest.

I would like to know more about Isabella J Maile's background, where she came from and family details but also what happened to her after her husband died. Did she remarry and where did she die? It seems to me she has promptly vanished - abducted by aliens perhaps.

Hello,

Could someone look up the burials in Bletsoe for the following two people, please.

George White - occupation = Carpenter/Labourer
Hannah White - wife of the above

Both died sometime between 1816 and 1845 so they must have been aged no older than around 66 years.

Hello,

Does anyone know if St. Columb Major Cemetery, Trekenning Road has a map of roughly where each grave can be found?

I haven't been able to find one from the website; http://www.stcolumbmajor-tc.gov.uk/cemetery/

I have the grave number of somebody who is buried there but no idea if there is a headstone.

London and Middlesex / Clayton Street, Islington 1866 - NUDD
« on: Monday 24 October 16 13:42 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a birth certificate of a relative who was born at 4 Clayton Street, Islington in the year 1866 but the informant is an 'S Nudd, Occupier, 4 Clayton Street, Islington'. I have no idea if 'S Nudd' is male or female and I can't establish a connection with my relative.

I would like to know who this 'S Nudd' is and what they did for a living as well as any other information about them.

I have looked through some of the London Electoral Roll records on Ancestry and found a Robert Hammond registered at that address in 1865 but no mention of anyone call Nudd living there through the Electoral Roll or Census.

Hello,

Could somebody please run a burial lookup in the Luton & Dunstable areas for the people as follows;

George Alfred Sparvell died aged 47 on 13th January 1918 of Waterlow Road, Dunstable.

William Dalton died aged 88 on 23rd September 1917 of Wenlock Street, Luton.

Walter John Dalton died aged 19 on 19th November 1892 of the Stag's Head Inn, Luton.

Walter Dalton (father of the above) died aged 37 - not sure of exact date but registered in same year and appears to be after the date above - same address as above

Thank you in advance.

« on: Wednesday 15 June 16 15:48 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My great-uncle died in 2013 and was buried at Fremington Cemetery near Barnstaple.

I have been in contact with the Parish Clerk who have confirmed that there is a headstone and supplied a map of the approximate location and a burial plot number.

As we live over 200 miles away, could somebody please photograph it?

Kind Regards,

Bedfordshire Lookup Requests / Hairdressers - Hammond
« on: Thursday 21 January 16 19:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for a hairdressers owned by Frederick Charles Hammond that was on Iddesleigh Road, Queen's Park, Bedford.

I have found a mention of it from September 1934 as Queen's Park Toilet Saloon, Queen's Park, Bedford. I would guess it was closed for a while because after Hammond's wife died he re-opened the saloon in November 1950.

I would like to know it's exact location on Iddesleigh Road, if possible.

How would I access the Kelly's Directory myself if I wanted to? I asked at the local library but they did not seem to know.

Bedfordshire / Unfamiliar Nursing Homes and Harpur Street Address
« on: Tuesday 29 December 15 18:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am fairly familiar with Bedford but I have come across a couple of relatives born in two different nursing homes in Bedford which I have not heard of or been able to find any information about. They are;

Cheltondale Nursing Home, Bedford (1948)
Rena Nursing Home, Bedford (1944)

On completely separate matter, would anyone know what 29 Harpur Street, Bedford, MK40 1LA was in February 1938? Today, Bar Citrus is on the site and I suspect some kind of Pub/Hotel/Inn was also there in 1938 but I'm not sure.

Many thanks,

Bedfordshire / Emmie C Ladds
« on: Saturday 02 March 13 18:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My maternal grandfather's first marriage was to Emmie C Ladds in Bedford in 1932. His name was George Henry Plant (deceased). They had one daughter (still alive).

Thing is, I can't find any info about her. Something appears to have happened because George Henry Plant married again in 1959 in Luton. I can't find a death or a re-marriage for her anywhere.

I'm guessing that Emmie is short for something like Amelia, Emma or Emily. None of these seem to help.
