Stirlingshire / Are the Jenkins of Camelon related??
« on: Monday 10 July 06 13:11 BST (UK)  »
Whilst researching my Jenkins line-William Jenkins born Falkirk 1810c & Ann Mackie born Dumfermline I have found a swathe of Jenkins all living in Camelon & mostly all employed as Nailors. They are calling their children by the same names Robert,Catherine,Ann & Margaret.
I am wondering how to prove any relationship as I cannot find any Birth for William & his Death Certificate the parents are reported by a non-family member.

Lanarkshire / James Cooper aka Waddell
« on: Wednesday 07 June 06 17:17 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the half-brother of my GGrandfather John Waddell.
They are the children of Ann Graham & Alexander Waddell & Ann Graham &James Cooper respectively.
Ann was born in Auchterarder & by 1851 she is living there with Jane aged 10-who is listed as her daughter but may in fact be her sisters Jane/Jean's child,
James aged 6 & thomas Waddell aged 2.
She died in Dollar Clackmannanshire in 1861 & James is living with Alexander Waddell & is enumerated as James Waddell. His sibs are Thomas-died aged 22 in Edinburgh 1871,Alexander died Stow railway line in 1874 aged 20-fell between the wheels of a train, Margaret-who married a Mr James & she died childless too.John,William-who emigrated to USA & as far as we know never married had children.
Jane/Jeannie married an Alfred Gibson but she claims her Mother as Jane Graham.
James married Mary Bryce in Old Monklands in 1873.He too was killed on the railway1888 as he was repairing the Bridge when the jib of a crane fractured his skull.William,John & James were all Stonemasons & William is lodging with James in 1881.
Mary & James named their daughter Margaret Waddell Cooper. It would appear that out of all their children only John/James had any descendants.
My Grandfather was named James Cooper Waddell & I know that his Father stayed in touch with the Coopers after his death.
Love to hear from any other descendants!

Midlothian / Stow & a Death on the Railway
« on: Friday 26 May 06 16:14 BST (UK)  »
My g-grandfather's elder brother was killed whilst working as a railway guard in Stow in 1876-killed instantly when he fell between the wheels of a train.
He was single,22 & lodging with a fellow Guard in High St Portobello John Young who reported his Death.
Does anybody know which Train Companies would operating on this line at this time?Where is/was the railway line in Stow in 1876?
Would there be any kind of record of this accident?
Any suggestions as to his burial place. The family were all young when orphaned & I wonder if his siblings knew whether he had been killed or not-if in fact they remained in touch. There are no family stories of a death on the Railway which I ma sure there would have been if they  were aware of it. I know the other sibs did all living fairly close to each other.
He was born before civil reg-1854& my GGrandfather in 1856 so one year out on both! The details of his parentage was very detailed & I wonder if employers would have kept a record of your parents at this time?

« on: Friday 05 May 06 16:20 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking any help, info useful hints on how to find anything on James McPherson & Amelia/Emilia/Emily Fraser.
On their daughter Isabella's Death Certificate in Inverness 1866 her son my GGGrandfather gives her parents as James McPherson Chelsea Pensioner & Amelia McPherson. The IGI has five children born to them from 1793 in Daviot &Dunlichity 1800 &1805 Ardersier,1803 Nairn & 1808 Inverness.
I am presuming that James was posted at Ardersier when the children were born.
Does anybody know of any place I could find out which Regiments were where at those times as I would be very keen to find out his Regiment/Service.?
The children names are Allan-1805
Emilia-1800
Janet-1793-not sure on this one!
John-1808
Isabel/lla-1803-although her age is given as 60 in 1866.

« on: Wednesday 03 May 06 17:23 BST (UK)  »
My GGGGReat Grandmother Robina Mcdowall was born in Girvan (?)according to the 1881 Census.C1843.

When she dies in 1909 in Govan her parents are given as Andrew McDowall -Weaver & Agnes McHarg. Her son-in-law is reporting the Death so I know I should accept the name on the Marriage as the right one but I cannot find any birth for Robina on the OPR or any Census entry for her or her parents or any death for either which matches.I know I am doing something wrong & have spent a fortune on SP looking anybody any ideas????
