I am looking for my ancestor John Pigman (sometimes spelled Pigmon, Piggeman, Pigeman, etc). He purchased a plantation in Maryland in 1695 and first shows up:
Charles Co., Md. Circuit Court, Liber L, p. 19. 1684 12 Nov Age: 55 Charles Co., Md. Nov. 12, 1684 - Ordered that John Pigman and James Lyle servants to Mr. Edward Pye be free and have their corn and clothes from said Pye. (Charles Co., Md. Circuit Court, Liber L, p. 19.)
One of the authors of "John Pigman and His Descendants" Polly Kelleher also mentions a Joseph Pigman sometime called Prigman.
There was a Joseph Pigman (also called Prigman), who lived in Somerset about this time. He was a Captain in a regiment of foot raised by Col. Francis of Dunster Castle in 1688.
"English Army Lists and Commision Registers. Vol II, III., Charles Dalton, ed 1960, pub Francis Edwards, Ltd, London.
"On October 2, 1706 John deeded to Anthony Long, ... 37 acres of Taunton..." The author traced this back to Taunton, Somerset, England, 30 miles S.W. of Bristol, England. However, in his Will 10/27/1712, Prince Georges Co., MD., John Pigman gives: "... To dau., Mary Mason and hrs., 37 A., where Anthony Long lives."
Are any of these names (John Pigman and James Lyle servants to Mr. Edward Pye) in the Somerset records?
Thank you,
Curtis
