James Williams (also referred to as James Payne Williams) was an early NZ settler/whale station manager; he married newly arrived UK immigrant Jane Florence, and after her early death he married Jane’s younger cousin Arabella (also of the missionary Kendall family). James and Arabella went on to have a number of children. A written description of James exists but I have yet to come across his engraving in early records. Arabella’s final will and testament however, refers to a framed engraving of her deceased husband James.
I am therefore seeking anyone who might have this image, or any other image of James in their family records. I and other descendants have collated a lot of information about James.  A Private Message would be very gratefully received if anyone can be of help in this regard.

William HALL (born Winchester) and Ann “Annie” BARNETT (born Westminster) had their first child Charles in 1900 (born Buckinghamshire).
In the 1911 census, William noted that he and Annie had been married for 12 years. They were now living in Croydon, Surrey.
I cannot find, however, their marriage through BMD UK. Ann was 5 years older than William (although recorded as only 3 years older). I wonder if she might have married at a young age and not divorced therefore William and Annie might have lived in name only.
If there are any suggestions, I would be grateful.

William HALL born 1875 in Winchester Hampshire. He married Annie in about 1899. William first appears in the 1901 census with Annie and their 9 mth old in the Palewell Lodge estate’s Gardeners Cottage, Mortlake Surrey, living in the Gardeners Cottage (the house was sadly demolished 1925).  Their baby however was born in Chesham Buckinghamshire (1900) and their second child was born in 1902 Stoke Hammond, Buckinghamshire. There was obviously a place / people to go to in Buckinghamshire. They then had twins, in Sevenoaks Kent in 1907. they finally settled in Croydon, Surrey.

I cannot find a marriage for Annie and William. I haven’t yet ordered his birth certificate as what I thought was the record for William has been claimed by another family.  I am writing in the hopes that someone might be able to direct me to any sources of information that might help track William’s marriage and parents before ordering certificates which might not be his.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

My Gr Uncle Peter Hall (deceased, formerly living in Eastbourne, England) told my parents about serving in WWII in an Airborne unit - he was young (probably a year too young to join the RAF as he lied about his age). I believe he was a paratrooper or involved in the unit which dropped paratroopers. His unit was involved in the liberation of a POW camp in in Germany towards the end of the war.
Peter apparently made mention that a fellow member of the unit wrote a book of memoirs which was published (Peter contributed to the book and would be acknowledged as such). I am interested in finding out about this book (I have had no luck in a general online search) and would be most happy to receive any leads for information.

Much appreciated if you can help in any way.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Looking for father of Joseph J Moores Born 1839
« on: Friday 04 January 13 02:26 GMT (UK)  »
Joseph J MOORES was born 1839 Manchester, Lancashire, Warwickshire. He was married to Sarah Hennon who died in 1869 then he married Mary Elizabeth Bushell. He had 5 children in total. Joseph died d. last qtr 1925, Hackney, London
In 1871 Census ‘Marin Moores’, born 1818 in Preston, Lancanshire, UK, is noted as Joseph’s mother living/staying with the ‘motherless’ family at the time. It is assumed that Marin is ‘Maria Moores’.
In the 1851 Census a Joseph Moores, born approx 1841 aged 10, from Lancashire Manchester appears in the school roll of the Swinton Moral and Industrial Schools for the Township of Manchester in the Parish of Eccles and in the district of Barton Upon Inwell, Worsely.  In the same census, 1851, a Maria Moores, born about 1816 in Preston, Lancashire, Manchester aged 35 years, also appears at the same school address. Maria was noted on the original census transcript as a “Medical Nurse” and as a “Widow”

Any help would be very much appreciated!
