Durham / Seaton-Beatty Marriage 1874
« on: Friday 23 September 16 05:01 BST (UK)  »
Would be grateful if anyone has access to Parish records which might add details to the index only record I have found of this marriage.

Mary Anne SEATON married John Charles BEATTY third quarter 1874 in the Registration District Hartlepool, County Durham. (Vol 10a page 279)

Interested in establishing the witnesses as both parties were apparently living in Ireland at the time!

Thanks as ever,
Penstone

I have recently come across the 1939 Register and been surprised to find a previously unknown family member. Being on the other side of the world and having no living family in the area to ask I would be grateful for any newspaper/cemetery lookups for

Eric Seaton b 27th August 1928
                 d December 1981.

Eric lived in Redcar and I have found no record of a marriage.

Thanks as always

« on: Saturday 15 November 14 03:11 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to Loudam for directions to cemetery records I have now established RS died March 23rd 1889 as a result of an accident.

So far I have been unable to track any details of the accident via online editions of Cork Advertiser and would appreciate any other recommendations of online newspapers.

Also would much appreciate knowing if a gravestone exists at Cobh/Queenstown cemetery, Section A Row 3 No 6.

Many thanks as always.

World War One / WW1 Scottish Regiments
« on: Friday 25 October 13 07:15 BST (UK)  »
Having failed to find my grandfather's WW1 details via the records on Ancestry I am assuming his were some of the many lost in the fire. However I would appreciate any help in identifying which regiment he served in. Family lore had him both at Gallipoli and gassed on the Western Front. Being born and bred in Aberdeen which regiment might have seen him in both arenas? He was William Wilson Chalmers b 1893. Many thanks as ever.

Aberdeenshire / ***Marriage George Shepherd-Wilhelmina Wishart***Completed
« on: Wednesday 10 July 13 05:38 BST (UK)  »
Trying to confirm that the wife of George Shepherd of 30 Urquart Road Aberdeen in 1901 census is in fact Wilhelmina Wishart b 1870 in the Leuchars/ Guardbridge/St Andrews area, daughter of William and Isabella. Wilhelmina worked as a domestic servant at Ballone Farm c1891 census.

Can anyone help put these two together? I expect the marriage date to be about 1894/5.

Many thanks as always to helpful Rootschatters!

Australia / SS Caroline Elizabeth, Melbourne 1858
« on: Monday 22 April 13 22:12 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have details about this ship and its passengers which arrived Melbourne in November 1858. I think it picked up passengers from the Eastern City which had foundered off South Africa.

I am interested in the Honeys who were apparently 'unassisted' passengers.

Many thanks

London and Middlesex / William Honey and Ellen Sadler married 1858
« on: Thursday 18 April 13 10:02 BST (UK)  »
Looking for some assistance please in confirming the backgrounds of these two relatives. The marriage register shows them marrying at St Dunstans West on 29th June 1858 with both of them resident in the Fleet St area. Both fathers were named John. William's gives his occupation as Gentleman and Ellen's as Labourer.

I know that very soon after the marriage they left for Australia and their daughter was born there the following year.

Any help in confirming their parentage or indeed their route to Australia would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Thomas Noah ALLEN UK to Auckland 1863
« on: Thursday 24 January 13 21:08 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for confirmation of which ship brought Thomas Noah Allen to Auckland about 1863.  He married Martha Thompson in Auckland in 1865 , had a son there and then briefly went back to England in about 1870 before returning on the Charlotte Gladstone 1871 and settling in Canterbury.

His marriage details give his occupation as seaman and I have found newspaper references to two possibles: T Allen of the John Duncan ( deserted ship 26.1.1864) and T Allen of Helvellyn arr Auckland 23/1/64.

Can anyone help confirm either of these? Many thanks.
