Stirlingshire / Pitchwork - Where was it in Bothkennar in 1869?
« on: Thursday 08 October 15 23:16 BST (UK)  »
I have an 1869 birth record for a James Buchanan HADDOW (Fa = John; Mo = Margaret) and the record says they were living at Pitchwork, Bothkennar. The record is a fairly good one, I think I am reading the place name correctly.
Does anyone know where this place might be?

Thank you

Clackmannanshire / Shandbody in Clackmannanshire
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 17:01 BST (UK)  »
Can someone help me find the location of Shandbody? I suspect it was the name of a very small rural area, even the name of a farm, but I can't find it on an of the old maps. Had a distant relative, George Drysdale, living there in 1841. Thanks.

John Morrison belonged to the 73rd Regiment of Foot which went to Australia in Dec 1809 from England on the HMS Dromedary. His wife Elisabeth was with him.
Either on the trip or soon after they arrived, she gave birth to a daughter, Marion. Marion is not recorded as having been born in Sydney, though her brother William born two years later was so recorded. That suggests the birth was actually on the voyage. Where would I find a record of such a birth? Thanks
