Anglesey / Photograph of old Amlwch
« on: Friday 14 February 14 23:09 GMT (UK)  »
I suspect this house in the upper photo is Brynteg, Amlwch taken about he turn of the last century, abt 1900.
Can anyone confirm if that's the case and whether it's still there.
Many thanks

Anglesey / Robert Williams, LNWR Engine driver, Brynteg, Amlwch.
« on: Monday 27 January 14 14:11 GMT (UK)  »
This man born 1847 and in Bangor and married a Caernarfon lady, Elizabeth  Rowlands. He was living in Brynteg, Amlwch in 1911 (Elizabeth was born in 1847 also) and spent all his life on the LNWR. I suspect he may be buried in Amlwch but is not at St Eleth. Would anybody have an unofficial list of graves at the municipal cemetery? He died before her maybe late 1910's-1920

Australia / Kempster, Glebeland Township, Sydney.

Good afternoon
I am researching the old Ellis family of Llanllyfni, Caernarvonshire, North Wales. The only daughter of Robert Ellis (the notable poet Awen Llyfni) was Anne Ellis born in Caernarvonshire in 1833. She appears in the UK census in 1851 then no more. I then saw a newspaper article on the 8th July 1885 in the Welsh-American paper, Y Drych saying that Anne Ellis was living in Glebeland Township, Sydney and she had married a Mr Kempster. I don't have access to the Australian Censuses and any help would be appreciated, or any knowledge of this family.
Thank you.

Australia / Welsh Poet, Namorydd
« on: Thursday 04 July 13 21:41 BST (UK)  »
I know this is a long shot but would anyone know of a T.J. Jones born in the county of Merionethshire, Wales and emigrated to Australia in 1884. He was known by his bardic name as Namorydd and is living in his seventies in Cardiff, New South Wales in the early 1930ies. He is part of a project I am researching about quarryman poets and was highly regarded.
I would be grateful for any help regarding death/gravestone/family etc.

Caernarvonshire / Burial in Bethesda
« on: Saturday 22 June 13 22:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi. I'm looking for a gravestone, if present, in the Bethesda area. A quarryman named William Owen met with a fatal quarry accident at Bryneglwys Quarry, Abergynolwyn, Merionethshire and the two newspaper articles mention that he was buried back in his native Bethesda.
I have the burial indices for Glanogwen and Coetmor & he doesn't appear to be there. Several of the Bethesda area Burial Indices are absent at the National Library of Wales. I wonder if anyone could look up Llanllechid or any other local cemetery. He died on the 15 April 1877. He was a widower so he may be buried with his wife whose name I do not know.

Merionethshire / Bryneglwys Quarries, Abergynolwyn.
« on: Wednesday 12 June 13 21:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm looking for the burial places of 2 quarrymen who died in quarry accidents in the above quarry.
One is a Hugh Williams who died on the 11 September 1870 and Robert Roberts who died mid February 1871. Their deaths were reported in the Cambrian News.
They are not in Llanfihangel y Pennant or Talyllyn or Towyn & a walk around Llanegryn has been fruitless. They are not in Bryncrug or Abertrinant either. Both DC's report their place of death as the quarry but no mention of their address. Both were married, the first had 4 children & was aged 32  the second was 26 & had 2 children.
Montgomeryshire searches in Mach & Penegoes were also unhelpful. They are not at St Rhedyw Llanllyfni either. (close association with Abergynolwyn)
Possibly Llanfachreth/Dolgellau????

Glamorganshire / Cemeteries in Mountain Ash
« on: Wednesday 22 May 13 10:12 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know if Aberffrwd Cemetery, Mountain Ash is the same as Caegarw Cemetery. I have an aunt who was buried there in 1919. I know it's not Maesyrarian.

Caernarvonshire / Moel Tryfan Cemetery
« on: Friday 19 April 13 21:11 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone know whether the above cemetery is the same as Carmel non denominational cemetery in Carmel near Y Groeslon. I read of a burial in 1923 in Y Herald Gymraeg at Moel Tryfan cemetery & wondered if it was the same one.

Caernarvonshire / John Roberts, Penrhyn, Cesarea
« on: Wednesday 17 April 13 21:35 BST (UK)  »
Would anyone have any ideas where the above may be buried. He was born in Amlwch in 1806 and with the demise of the copper industry on Parys Mountain moved to  upper Llandwrog, Caernarvonshire and worked the copper mines at Drws y Coed. He married a Margaret Daniel at St Twrog in 1832 and is present at Penrhyn Oer, Upper Llandwrog until 1881(as is Margaret) then presumably died there. I have visited Carmel Cemetery (too new) and is not at St Twrog nor St Thomas's, Groeslon. I have had a quick look round Macpelah, Penygroes but wondered whether anyone knew of a cemetery higher up Nantlle that Carmel. I have also checked Pisgah (Ind).
