Europe / Help Please with Germany - Heinrich Wiese
« on: Sunday 26 November 17 17:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hello everyone! I wonder whether anyone can help me please? I am researching my husband's family tree and I am a bit stuck. His great-grandfather on his mother's side was Heinrich Wiese. He married Margery Augusta Koenig (Konig) and they had five children - Hermann Karl Gustav Erich (born in 1896 in Germany), Elizabeth Sarah Ann Johanna (born 1899 died 1901)Wilhelm Heinrich (born 1901 and later called himself William Henry Wise (my husband's grandfather), Percy Alexander Wiese (born 1903) and Margerie Agnes Christina (born 1906). Last four children all born in UK. Margery Augusta died in 1908 and by April 1909 the remaining four children were in the workhouse in Islington for a short while. Rumour has it that Heinrich left his children and went to America but I can't prove this. Also, I can find Heinrich and Margery's marriage in Germany (Margery was born in London) but I wanted to prove who Heinrich's parents were. Any help very greatly appreciated. Catherine :)

Merionethshire / Thomas Evans of Cerrigydrudion
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I put a question on this forum the other day and it was answered very quickly - amazing!

I am still stuck with this family though, so here goes:

Mary Evans was born 23rd July 1854 in Cerrigydrudion daughter of Thomas Evans and Margret (Margaret) ???

Gadget kindly confirmed that Mary married William Thompson on 27th March 1882 in Llanycil and that her father was Thomas Evans, a shoemaker.

I believe that I have found Thomas Evans and his wife Margaret on the 1871 Census in Brynpatre, Moelfrey, Corwen with Thomas born abt 1819 in Cerrigydrudion and Margaret born abt 1834 in Llanfawr?? Thomas was a Shoemaker.

I cannot find Thomas and Margaret anywhere else, do not know Margaret's maiden name or where or when they married. Was Mary an only child?

I have found two possible deaths for Thomas Evans in Corwen:
i) 1877 Qtr 2 Year of Birth 1817 Vol 11b Page 0300

ii) 1878 Qtr 2 Year of Birth 1818 Vol 11b Page 0298

I may be completely wrong with the above but am getting nowhere at the moment and would be grateful for some help.  :)

Thanks

Catherine

Cumberland / Jane Ann McCracken
« on: Thursday 26 January 17 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
Please help - I'm stuck! Jane Ann Cochrane was born 25th Dec 1870 in Kirkpatrick Fleming, Dumfriesshire. She married Andrew McCracken in 1892 in Carlisle and was living with her husband (aged 39 & a Police Constable) and her children in Maryport, Broughton Moor in 1911. Andrew died in 1939 and his death was registered in Jul/Aug/Sep in Cockermouth, Cumberland. I can find no trace of Jane's death or re-marriage either in Cumberland or Dumfriesshire and I can't find her on the 1939 Register. Any ideas gratefully received!

Merionethshire / Marriage of Mary Evans and William Thompson
« on: Thursday 19 January 17 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hello - I don't know whether anyone has any access to any Parish Registers for a marriage between William Thompson and Mary Evans in Jan/Feb/Mar 1882 in Bala. If I am right, William Thompson was from Cumberland and worked in the Coal Mining industry. Mary was born in Cerrigydrudion in 1854. I think this is a very long shot to ask but you never know!

Many thanks in advance  :)

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / William Ponting Collins
« on: Monday 24 October 16 12:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone

I am looking for any clues as to the birth of a William Ponting Collins born about 1839 - possibly in York but sometimes described as Yorkshire, NK. His father was John Ponting Collins and William had a brother, James Ponting Collins who married Frances Emma Tubbs in 1856 in St Pancras, Middlesex. William Ponting Collins married Mary Ann Hibberd in 1863 in London - his marriage cert described his father as a soldier whereas James' gave John's name but said 'Dead' under Rank or Profession of Father. Ponting definitely seems to be an additional first name as it is given to William's children and also his wife but not as a surname.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated as I am well and truly stuck!

Thanks

Lincolnshire / Wilkinson Family Bolingbroke / Wainfleet Area
« on: Monday 10 October 16 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone

I am completely stuck with Alice Mary Wilkinson who was born around 1849 and married to Benjamin Jones. She was born in Bolingbroke, according to the 1891 census and Wainfleet according to the 1881 census. Benjamin and Alice's first child was Benjamin Victor Jones born about 1873 in Poplar. Benjamin Jones senior was born in Shropshire in about 1840. I cannot find a marriage for them and, all in all, I've come to a bit of a dead end. Please can anyone help? I would be very grateful  :)

World War One / Essex Regiment
« on: Saturday 24 September 16 14:01 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

I have a booklet that is entitled Standing Orders 1st Cadet Battalion Essex Regiment. I am doing some research for a friend and I believe that the person it belonged to would only have been about 12 years old in June 1915 which is the Date Enlisted. It says that he has the rank of Private and that the Regiment No is 147. Battalion and Company Headquarters are Orderly Room, Wellington St Canning Town. Would this all be possible for a 12 year old during WW1? Can anyone tell me any more about it?

I would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks

Angus (Forfarshire) / Help Please with Mary Campbell Smith
« on: Friday 01 July 16 17:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone

I really need some help with the above lady! Mary Campbell Smith married Frederick George Wheeler in Alfold in Surrey on Jan 15th 1905. She gave her age as 26, she was a spinster and her father was Alfred Smith, a Farmer. Witnesses were Alfred Smith and Annie Smith. On the 1911 census in Hitchin, Hertfordshire her place of birth is given as Scotland NK.

I think that she could have died in 1977 in Stevenage (Stevenage makes sense) but her date of birth is given as 4th June 1876.

I have looked at Scotland's People because I believe that she could have hailed from Forfarshire but I'm not sure. Any help with a definite thread would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Catherine

Buckinghamshire Completed Look ups / Help Please with a Place Name
« on: Friday 24 June 16 16:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello Everyone

I am researching a Frederick George Wheeler (father is William Wheeler) born in Buckinghamshire in 1883 registered in Wycombe. On the 1891 census he was living with his family at Manor House Lodge in Little Berkhamstead and in 1901 he is boarding in Egham. Can anyone help me with the place of birth - it appears to begin with a 'D' but the transcriptions don't make sense.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Catherine
