Durham / OLD - Aycliffe & Sunderland
« on: Wednesday 14 September 05 19:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi All

I am descendant from John OLD born c1785 Aycliffe.  He married Alice KELSEY in 1812 Aycliffe.

Among their 6 children was George OLD born 1813 Aycliffe who married Mary Halliday on 21 Apr 1833 at St. Peter's, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland.  George was a Sailcloth/Canvas Weaver and died 1890 in Sunderland.  George and Mary had 15 children and their daughter Alice b1831 married Thomas POLLEY.

Over the years I have gathered quite a lot of confirmed information relating to the many OLD lines and I am more than willing to share this with other researchers with a connection.

Happy hunting

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1861 Census -
« on: Sunday 07 November 04 22:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Not sure if this request is way too much, so apologies in advance if it is  but would be grateful for any assistance.

I am looking for Henry GARNETT & family in 1861.

I have the details from 1871 so hoping they may be in the same place, fingers crossed!!!
In 1871 Henry (widowed)was living at 42 General Queen Street and the census page gives the Civil Parish as St. Giles and Borough as Finsbury.

In 1861 Henry would be 49, and at least 2 children should be present, Ellen aged 9 & Fanny aged 1.

I have located a marriage for Henry on FreeBMD to Mary Susannah Davies in 1850 and hoping if I find him in 1861 this will confirm if I have the correct marriage entry.

Any help would be appreciated.

Durham / COUNDON
« on: Monday 20 September 04 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Would love to hear from anyone researching the name COUNDON.  I do not have much information but here goes.

Harrison COUNDON born c1855 Sunderland.  In 1891 he is living in Zion Street with wife Ellen & 2 boys Harrison aged 5 & Thomas aged 6.  It is possible that the boys were the children of Ellen from a previous marriage but the census shows their surname as Coundon.

In 1901 Harrison was widowed living in Spring Garden Lane with sons Alfred COUNDON born c1892 & M A COUNDON born c1896.  There were also 2 lodgers Thomas & Harry BRANTON aged 14 & 17.

If any of this information rings a bell, please contact me.

Durham / MELLON
« on: Thursday 08 July 04 15:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi  ;D

Researching the surname MELLON wondered if anyone else has an interest in this name.  Willing to share information.

I have Miles Ronald MELLON born about 1915, father William Robinson MELLON.  On Miles's marriage certificate his father's occupation is shown as Club Steward and the address was shown as Club House Dipton.  Miles married Charlotte Margaretta Ganley in 1947 at the Register Office, Annfield Plain.  Miles & Charlotte had a daughter Margaret in 1947 but unfortunately Charlotte died in the same year.  Family story suggests Margaret was raised by her aunt, sister of Miles.

I have information on William Robinson MELLON's parents and it appears William was born in Dipton.

Look forward to hearing from anyone with an interest in this surname.

Best wishes

Sue
