Can anyone please provide me with a monumental inscription for William Robertshaw, buried at St John the Evangelist, Cullingworth (near Haworth) on June 20th 1868? Or alternatively point me in the direction of a set of transcriptions for this church (Google turns up nothing)?

Thanks!

I have uploaded some videos I took of headstones in Heptonstall in November 2013. They cover some areas transcribed by the Hebden Bridge LHS, and some areas not.

I figured that this would be a much faster, and easier, method of recording the headstones than taking hundreds of individual photographs. They will hopefully be merged into the HBLHS MIs at some point in the near future.

(NB the taking of these recordings has been approved by the vicar of Heptonstall.)

Yorkshire (West Riding) / West Lane Wesleyan, Haworth - records?
« on: Tuesday 08 October 13 20:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm trying to locate 18th/19th century BMDs for the West Lane Wesleyan chapel in Haworth. They do not seem to be available online, or held either at the National Archives or the WYAS. I've asked them directly, but have not heard back from them yet.

I know that they (at least partially) exist as I have a copy of someone's research from the 1980's which makes reference to the marriage records.

Does anyone know where they may be? Or how far back their records go?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Abraham and Mary Robertshaw of Shore, Todmorden
« on: Tuesday 28 May 13 22:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm struggling to find records relevant to the following MI from Cross Stone chapel, near Todmorden:

Quote
In memory of Martha , daughter of Abraham and Mary Robertshaw of Shore,
who departed this life August 28 th 1817 aged 17 years .
Also Betty, their daughter, who departed this life Oct., 6 th 1817 aged 19 years .
Also of William Robertshaw of Shore who departed this life April 15 th 1816 aged 26 years .
Also in memory of Thomas Greenwood of Knowlwood Mill
who departed this life July 30 th 1849 aged 11 years .
Also of William Robertshaw of Height House near Bacup
who departed this life Aug., 21 st 1831 in the 65 th year of his life.
Also of Mary Walton of Height Top in Stansfield who died Jan., 25 th 1867 aged 63 years .
Also of Robertshaw Walton who died Feb., 23 rd 1873 aged 52 years .

I believe that the elder William Robertshaw is my 5th-great grandfather, but I'm having some problems finding relevant records - if anyone can help me locate some, or simply pine in with opinion, it'd be greatly appreciated:
  • There is no burial record at Cross Stone for Martha, Betty or William. Is this obvious from the header "in memory of"? Was it normal for people to not be buried in a proper graveyard, but perhaps for a wealthy relative to erect a memorial headstone?
  • There is no relevant marriage between Abraham and Mary pre-1800. There's one (for Mary Wood) in Leeds 1790 but they are both from there. Also there's an Abraham buried nearby (1758-1835) who would have been married to Betty (1759-1830), both with burial records, so could this be a transcription error? When did marriages at Cross Stone start? Its records pre-1800 are pretty fragmented, but they only seem to cover baptisms and burials (and the registers at Heptonstall don't appear to include marriages at Cross Stone).

I guess it would help if I could visit Cross Stone and see these graves for myself, but I read that the church (and the old graveyard) is now privately owned. Is this still the case? It seems to be accessible on Google Streetview..!
