Australia / Help with a missing person, Jane Briton CARBERRY 1893-?
« on: Thursday 28 March 13 03:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone
On researching my husband's family tree I discovered from his mother that his great--grandmother disappeared. Intrigued, I try to search for at least if there was any record of a death for this lady that might fit her details, but to no avail. Her name is Jane Briton Carberry (nee Holz, which originated as Holzenhauser) and she was born in Cobbity, NSW in 1893, the eldest and only girl of 8. Her parents were Harry Evans Holz (1874-1924) and Janet Rankin (1866-1931). The children were born all born at Cobbity. She married William John Benson Carberry (1877-1949) in 1912 at Jamberoo, where William's family lived. They had six children the last being born in 1922. My husband's grandfather was the first born in 1912 his name was Francis Evans Carberry. According to my mother-in- and the BMD NSW William died in 1949 in Wollongong. I did a name search on the cemeteries for him and a matching one comes up at Woronora. For Jane I have searched cemeteries and the BMD of both NSW and Victoria. Any guidance of where else I can possibly look is very much appreciated. Many thanks  :)

Hi there
I am searching for a Catherine Walsh, who was my 2nd great aunt. She was born in Bathurst in 1878 to Patrick (1852-1931, born in Penrith) and Margaret (1853-1928, born at Pyrmont). They had 8 other children all born in the Bathurst area and owned the Knickerbocker Hotel). My great aunt wrote some information out about this family and says that Catherine called herself Kate and left her family for the city (Sydney) only to have been spotted once by another family member. It seems she fled her family and cut all ties. I would love to know what became of her but of course it's such a common name I'm having trouble coming up with any thing that may be linked to Catherine/Kate). I would love if anyone had any ideas as to how I could potentially find out about Kate Walsh. Her parents eventually moved back to the coast, residing in the Illawarra area. They lived in Woonona (ran a mixed business), Berry, and then Thirroul. Thanks!!

Australia / WALSH Esther, possible lived in Penrith or Bathurst
« on: Sunday 17 March 13 00:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
I am new here so hope I am posting to regulations. I appreciate any help :)
I have been researching my 3rd great grandfather's family. His name was Patrick Walsh and was born in Penrith in 1852. His mother was Bridget Lawler (1823-1850) and father, Patrick Walsh (1822-1874). They came from Ireland (County Kildare) in 1850 on the Thomas Arbuthnot (origin, Kilnon, County Clare). They had two children already, John (3) and James (0). I am trying to find out if there was a sister, Esther, born around the same time as Patrick. I have searched the NSW BMD but the only Walsh born to a Bridget and Patrick Walsh around this time was named Sarah (1854). She was born in Penrith. The reason I believe there to also have been an Esther is that my great aunt wrote some information down about this Walsh family and mentions that her Uncle Patrick (1852-1931) had a sister Esther. She wrote that her Aunty Esther married a high court judge with the surname, Lorimer. She doesn't give any dates, however. I searched for Sarah on BMD and whom she may have married, thinking that her middle name was Esther and this is who my aunt was actually referring to. But I couldn't find that Sarah had been married to a judge (I searched for the history of high court judges). That said, there were a lot of Sarah Walshs so maybe I overlooked it. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction to further my chances of finding this elusive Esther. Many thanks!  :) :)
