I am hoping someone located in Salt Lake City may be able to lookup a film that appears to have  not yet been digitised:

“Inscriptions in the churchyard of the parish church of West Hoathley in the county of Sussex” copied by J. Harvey Bloom in 1935 apparently from an original manuscript produced in 1875.

The film is located on the British B1 Floor
Film number: 2214197, Item 8
DGS 4428064

Within this document I am looking for the tombstone inscriptions of Fasham NAIRN (1731-1810) who was buried at West Hoathly on 3 Nov 1810 from Barnetts Place.

There are at least three people buried in the tomb:

1.   A Friend (possibly Charlottee NUNN, buried 16 Jul 1802) for whom Fasham NAIRN built the tomb
2.   Fasham NAIRN himself
3.   A 5 week old infant also named Fasham NAIRN who died 29th March 1823.

The tomb seems to have originally had three marble inscription tablets attached with metal pins to the two ends and one of the long sides.  Only one tablet survives – that of the elder Fasham Nairn - and is now illegible.  From an old photograph it read:

In this Tomb
Are deposited the Remains of
FASHAM NAIRN
Of Barnetts Place
In this parish [….]
Who died the [27th] day of Octr 1810
Aged […] [years]

If the document can be located and this tomb was recorded in 1875 there is a good chance all three inscriptions may still have been extant.  If so, and the third person is not Charlotte(e) NUNN, then could a search also be made for her inscription, if any.

Alternatively, if there is a way I can view this film from outside the United States, please let me know how.

Does anyone have access to either or both of the Bishop's Transcripts and original registers of the parish of Eartham?

A modern transcription of the BTs contains the following consecutive entries for 1776/77:

31 Dec 1776, Jasper NYREN, age 92
30 Oct 1777, Frances KENT, age 68

I think there is a possibility the ages have been transposed, by either the modern transcriber or the producer of the Bishop's Transcript - ie. it is Jasper NYREN who was 68.  This would fit the baptism of Jasper NYREN at Eartham in 1708, who othewise disappears after the birth of his 4th child Thomas in 1741.

Ideally I would like to confirm from the original registers, if they still exist, what the recorded age of Jasper NYREN was.

I am hoping someone may be able to locate in the WSRO a manuscript:

“Inscriptions in the churchyard of the parish church of West Hoathley in the county of Sussex” copied by J. Harvey Bloom

The WSRO catalogue reference is:

Par 379/4/64
Notebook containing inscriptions in the churchyard, (contains no tombs later than 1870), copied 1935

The catalogue contains a second entry that seems to refer to this work:

MF 2056 in the Microfilm and Microfiche collection
Includes multiple churches including:
West Hoathly Par 379/4/64 c. 1875, Anon, Chyd

This seems to indicate the original document was produced in 1875 and copied in 1935 by J. Harvey Bloom.

Within this document I am looking for the tombstone inscriptions of Fasham NAIRN (1731-1810) who was buried at West Hoathly on 3 Nov 1810 from Barnetts Place.

2.   Fasham NAIRN himself
3.   A 5 week old infant also named Fasham NAIRN who died 29th March 1823.

The infant is the great great nephew of the elder Fasham Nairn.   There is a large wall monument to the infant inside St Margaret's church.  I have photos of this and the tomb in the churchyard.

The tomb seems to have originally had three marble inscription tablets attached with metal pins to the two ends and one of the long sides.  Only one tablet survives – that of the elder Fasham Nairn - and is now illegible.  From an old photograph it read:

There is a microfilm of the manuscript in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, but it has not been digitised.

Thanks in anticipation.

I have a read a comment by Rootschat administrators that most of the LMA collection is online.  However I have been unable to find any reference to Sun Fire Insurance records.  If there are digital copies could someone please give me a link.

If not, then I am requesting a lookup in record:

Reference: MS 11936/567/1300836

Description: Insured: Job Keen, Gloucester Street Commercial Road, gun stock maker, and John Millard, the Proof House Church Lane Whitechapel, proof master

Other property or occupiers: Oxford Street Bilston Staffordshire (George Brown, brewer
and porter dealer)

Date: 10 May 1839

I am interested in any other detail about the people named and the insured property - eg. description, more precise address.  Is it the Brown Lion tavern?

I understand from a relative who looked at insurance records some years ago but no longer lives in England, that the records are relatively easy to find but are contained in large heavy books.

Thanks in anticipation.

I am looking for information on Mary Ann MARTIN who married Rev Thomas Tipping AVELING on 4 Nov 1795 at St George Bloomsbury.

According to a type set record of the TANQUERAY family printed in about 1899 Mary Ann MARTIN was born 1772 in Bengal.  The record was seen by another researcher sometime before 1992.  I wish to confirm exactly what the record says about Mary Ann Martin and if any source is given for the statement about her birthplace.

The connection between the Tanqueray and Aveling families is Thomas Tipping Aveling's first cousin Frances Elizabeth AVELING who married Rev Edward TANQUERAY in 1803 at Ridgmont Bedfordshire.

Has any Tanqueray/Aveling/Martin researcher seen this record?

I seem to have lost the button to mark a topic as completed.  Has it been removed or is there a problem with my browser?

England / Post 1858 English wills website seems to be down
« on: Monday 07 February 22 02:17 GMT (UK)  »
The website to order post 1858 England and Wales wills has been down for over a week for "Essential Maintenance".   Last week there was a notice that it would be back up on 4 Feb 2022, but now it just has the essential maintenance notice.  Does anyone know what the problem is, and a possible resolution time-frame?

I am looking for details from a divorce case in the Court of Arches in 1830, case number 6532 (Microfilm Lambeth Palace Library MS Film 109), Assignation Books 23 Mar 1830 – 5 Jun 1835.

There are two references in the Lambeth Palace Library online catalogue:
Arches Aaa 44
Arches H 442A/1

The original material is not produced – the microfilm must be used.

Mary Dixon NAIRN of Birmingham, Warwickshire petitioned for divorce from Fasham NAIRN of West Hoathly Sussex on grounds of adultery and cruelty.

If the record is easy to find then I am hoping some kind soul could find out:

1. The name, status, and address of the other woman – I think it is Ann KING widow who may have been housekeeper to Fasham NAIRN at his London residence.

2.  Any mention of a child from the relationship.  If the other woman is Ann King then the child will be Fasham Nairn KING born 6 Mar 1827 or 12 Mar 1828 (long story not relevant to this enquiry, but if either date could be confirmed that would be good).

3. If the case actually proceeded.  I suspect it did not – or was unsuccessful.

Thank you in anticipation.  Not sure how the current situation affects access to libraries.  Anyone responding, please keep safe.

Two part request:

I have only recently become aware that The National Archives keeps original copies of PCC wills for more than just those of famous people.  I am looking for the original copy of a short will in PROB 10 for the will of James WOODS of Magdalen Street Saint Johns Bermondsey proved 12 May 1812.  The PCC clerk's copy is at PROB 11/1533 (between folio 412 and 413 - ie. the verso of 412).

1.  I need a copy of the signature to compare with a candidate marriage in 1798 at St Andrew Holborn; and

2. I would like to check a name in the will "my brother James Woods" about three quarters way through the 10 line will (in the PROB 11 copy).  I want confirm that the brother's name is indeed the same as that of the testator.

Any assistance much appreciated.
