Europe / Help translating Russian to English
« on: Thursday 30 May 19 00:12 BST (UK)  »
A kind researcher sent me a copy of a church record from Poland from 1897.  Unfortunately I do not speak or read Russian.  I am hoping that someone might be able to translate this document for me.

Thank you!

Seeking information on Henry Franklin and Ferdinard Braith.

Both appear in the 1860 U.S. Census living with Charles Franklin (shoemaker), his wife Pauline, and their children Hannah, Charles, and Edward.  The family is listed as immigrants from Saxony, Germany.

Henry Franklin (probably the brother of Charles) is listed as 27.
Ferdinard Braith (relationship unknows) is listed as 16.

Europe / Birth / Baptismal record for Annie Eichenberger - Prussia - 25 Feb 1812
« on: Saturday 26 January 19 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking a birth or baptismal record for Annie Eichenberger.  U.S. Census records indicate that she was born in Prussia.  Her death/cemetery records give her birthday as 25 February 1812.

She married a John Benz from Baden, Germany in the mid 1830s.  The couple settled in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA.

No indication if she was a widow prior to the marriage to John Benz.  No idea how she got from Prussia to Baden.  ???

« on: Saturday 26 January 19 14:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking the birth or baptismal record for Charles Franklin who was born in 1825 in Sachsen, Saxony, Germany.  I don't know who his parents may have been or their religious faith.

Married sometime in the early 1850s to a Pauline or Paulina.

Thank you.

I am attaching a photo of my father, Joseph Slater, New Years Eve 1964, Philadelphia, PA, USA

You will notice in the background behind my father that there are two old photographs on the shelves.  I believe these pics are of his grandfathers (my great-grandfathers).  Those pics have been long discarded (circa 1970s) when my grandparents died.  I have no other photos of these gentlemen and would love to see what they look like.

Despite numerous attempts, I can not zoom in close enough to capture these images without running into problems with pixels.

I know that this is a long shot but I am hoping someone might have the technical expertise to zoom in on these images and provide my first look at two of my great-grandparents.

Thanks!

I hoping someone can provide me some enlightenment.

I have had my DNA tested using both Ancestry.com and 23 & Me and have connected with many DNA relatives in the States.  I am curious why there never seems to be any DNA matches from people who still reside in my ancestor's country of origin, in particular - Ireland.

Some of my ancestors extended family did not immigrate yet I never get any hits for a 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th cousin who still lives in Ireland.  It seems unlikely that no one in Ireland is having their DNA tested to determine their ancestry make-up.

Is it possible that these companies are withholding these test results and are only making them available in Europe (such as gaining access to foreign records that comes with an additional premium?

Look for information on John Costigan & Catherine McDowell.  Married in Roscrea (not sure of the date - post 1840s?)  The couple had at least one daughter Catherine Costigan.  According to family lore John Costigan was lost at sea and Catherine & daughter immigrated to Brooklyn, NYC.

Tipperary / John Drennan - McDowell marriage (Roscrea)
« on: Wednesday 04 July 18 14:53 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information about the marriage of John Drennan and ? McDowell (I do not have her given name).

John Drennan was born in 1822 in Roscrea.  I do not know any other information about his wife other than her surname.

I would assume his marriage would have taken place after 1840.

Any information about this couple - children, immigration, etc. would be most welcomed.

Thank you.
