Australia / Vaughan Family
« on: Wednesday 23 June 21 06:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone. this will be a bit long winded.

Robert Vaughan b:1852 Sydney - d:1933 Mortdale, Sydney. Robert is my 2xgreat grandfather and that is confirmed. His baptism states that his father was also Robert and mother was Margaret Lynch. Thats where is goes dead on his parents. I have his records sorted 2 marriages, kids etc.
My great grandfather was Henry Neville Livingstone Vaughan b:1884 d:1972.

Now there is some confusion amongst the family as they also have a Henry Edward Vaughan b: 1842 Sydney d: 1901 Katoomba in the mix.

His father was Henry John b: 1791 Isleworth, England d: 1871 Sydney. He was a convict and eventually a very successful business man, as was Henry Edward. Realestate.

The family has heaps of photos and stuff of Henry Edward and they believe that he our 2x great grandfather. All my research and some personal notes from my grandmother point to Robert Vaughan.

One more thing Henry John is believed to have left a wife behind in England with possibly for children. A wild guess but could one of them be Robert?

How can I go about finding out the connection?

Thanks heaps

Isle of Man / The Howe IOM
« on: Friday 18 June 21 05:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

The area or place called 'The Howe' is referred to on a number of the official records that I have found. It also registers on google maps, yet when I search for it nothing comes up.

Does it exist or is it simply a family name used in reference to where the family lived?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Australia / 6 Newman Street Mortdale
« on: Sunday 18 April 21 12:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Is there any chance that someone out there can tell me how or where I might be able to get a photo or any info really on 6 Newman Street. Now obviously I don't mean a photo of the current residence at the address, that would just be creepy.

Three generations of the Vaughan family lived at the address from around 1910 to 1950. I have found a few news paper articles and heaps of electoral rolls and census forms. My mum has found memories of the house but unfortunately no photos have survived.

I have asked the local museum but they couldn't really help.

I know its a bit of a long shot but you never know.

Cheers, Chucky

England / Caroline Barley, UK to India?
« on: Friday 16 April 21 11:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi folks

I would very much appreciate any help I can get regarding my 2 x great grandmother, Caroline Barley.

If my research is correct Caroline was born in Whitton, Linclonshire on the 19th February 1865. I have the 1871 & 1881 census records showing her details but then there is a 10 year gap before she marries my 2 x great grandfather Charles Ernest deCheppe in Mumbai in India on the 10th March 1891.

Can anyone tell me how to find records of passenger lists from the UK to India between 1881 and 1891, or any other information?

Thanks

Isle of Man / William Northey
« on: Sunday 04 April 21 05:53 BST (UK)  »
Afternnon all,

I was hoping that someone could help with information on my 3 x Great grandfather William Northey (Abt.1828 - Abt.1891) the 1851 census states that he was born on the IOM but I have not been unable to find any other proof.

He married Elizabeth Watterson on the 7 Nov 1850, he was a carpenter that went onto be a ships carpenter.

Again the 1851 census shows him living at what could be 48 Glen Chass which is only a few mins from Port Saint Mary.

I have found an number of news clippings and other info about his family, but no luck with birth details or his parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Australia / George James Crocker
« on: Thursday 01 April 21 06:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone
I'm trying to find some record of my 2 x great grandfather. My grandfather was William John Crocker (1903-1988) my great grandfather William John (1865-1932). George James Crocker (1843-) father died when he was 12 and his name was George. I have assumed that George junior may have gone by the name James as an adult. His wife is just as confusing, first name is Isabella, but I can't confirm a surname. It could be either Hogg or Short. Any help would be appreciated.
