Dunbartonshire / The Scotts of Bowling, Glasgow of ship building fame.
« on: Thursday 25 April 24 09:45 BST (UK)  »

I would be most grateful, if someone could throw some light and hopefully details on this Clydeside family.
I am sorry but what I have to date is a bit sketchy, but hopefully there might be those who has access to past obituaries, that could start to fill in some of the blanks of this family please:

James Scott 1820-1889
A partnership was formed in 1892 between James Scott and his two sons, Charles Wood Scott 1858-1931 and James Scott Junior 1860-1950 , the firms name was changed again to Scott and Sons.
James Wood Scott 1894-1915/7
James Scott Junior 1860-1950 son Charles and his nephew James carried on the partnership after James Scott died in 1950.
Charles Scott and his brother William Scott became directors when James Scott retired in 1958.

United States of America / The Holy Grail of the the Kitchen trees.
« on: Thursday 09 November 23 04:20 GMT (UK)  »
Unbeknownst to me, before I came across Marfy Goodspeed's article, I was trying to trace back a whole host of Kitchens, which were not attributable to belonging to the Henry Kitchen (c.1690 – 1745) m. c.1720 Ann Wheeler (c.1690 – after 1748) line.
Research lead me to the oldest of these three brothers: (2.1) James Kitchen (1679 – 1761) m. c.1725 Elizabeth Furman (1695 – 1776).
Which in turn lead me to this article below.

Tremendous research all sourced and confirmed has been made on this Wheeler line during the past six years, with my half sister's DNA recorded on 23&me.
So it now begs the question as to whether or not a match can be confirmed to the descendants of the Furham and Lambert lines.
This would be the foundation to try and get these branches as definitive as possible.

The Kitchen Tree

April 3, 2020
By Marfy Goodspeed in Families, Kitchen 7 Comments    Tags: family trees

This Kitchen family arrived in Hunterdon County in the early 1720s, and quickly became established. I’ve published this tree to support “Kitchen’s Mill,” my article about property in Sand Brook, Hunterdon County, owned by Henry Kitchen and his son Samuel.

There are other Kitchens who appeared in Hunterdon County, but I do not know if they were connected to Henry and his brothers or not. They are listed at the end of the page. Children of Kitchen daughters are included but not grandchildren. Surnames of spouses who have a family tree on this website are highlighted in green.
First Generation:

(1) Unknown Kitchen of Salem, Massachusetts ?

Most researchers identify the Kitchen brothers of Hunterdon (second generation) as sons of a John Kitchen of Salem, Massachusetts. However, I have not seen convincing evidence that the John Kitchen who did reside in Salem was actually the father of the three brothers.
Second Generation:

|     (2.1) James Kitchen (1679 – 1761) m. c.1725 Elizabeth Furman (1695 – 1776)
|     (2.2) Henry Kitchen (c.1690 – 1745) m. c.1720 Ann Wheeler (c.1690 – after 1748)
|     (2.3) Thomas Kitchen (c.1690 – 1764) m. c.1725 Sarah Lambert (c.1690 – c.1770)

US Lookup Requests / Elizabeth Vaughn Kitchen 1787-1872.
« on: Saturday 28 October 23 07:08 BST (UK)  »
Elizabeth Vaughn Kitchen 1787-1872 was married to a Joseph Kitchen at the time of his death - see attachment.
Can't figure out how to attach, here's the link: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/97861861/elizabeth-kitchen
Joseph does in fact come up in this Tree that I am researching, but at the moment I cannot link him to past Josephs.
Could I please trouble those to link him back to his parents and previous generations if possible?

I am trying to trace back the following, but I am not having much luck:

Robert T / Dallas M / Dallas Robert Kitchen 1933- married Joan Anton 1938-2018 https://www.grossepointenews.com/articles/joan-kitchen/

Potentially his ancestors:
Robert George 1892-1954 Barry, MI married Augusta E. Timreck, 2nd wife Gussie E
Children:
Muriel J 1933

Going back further:
John Henry 1861-1910 married Elizabeth Randall 1866-1951
John Henry 1886- East Nissouri Township, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada 1973 31 Aug 1973 - Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida, USA, married Beatrice Adelaide Seaton 1887-1955

Any help and confirmations would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have tried to follow up four of five DNA matches to my Tree, with 13,003 entries on it all sourced and confirmed.
This has all been done with no successful results at all.
Sure my volume of entries might still be the tip of the iceberg, but it would be reassuring to learn and hear just what kind of success others have had.
In so much as what are the chances, the percentage of those matches that have been confirmed on actual trees?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA match to an Northern Irish Kirk.
« on: Wednesday 18 January 23 03:14 GMT (UK)  »
The most closely related Kirk from my own 23&Me DNA test results, can trace his family tree back to Northern Ireland.
2nd cousin once removed, shared DNA 1.19% 89cM.
Here is what has been established, sourced and confirmed:

James Kirk abt 1720 -1775 born and died in Ballymoney, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Married Mary Jean Agnes Edmiston (Edmundson) 1733-1772.
Matthew Kirk 1760-1839 married Grace Johnston 1769-1858
James Johnstone Kirk Sr. 1794-1857 married Jane Walker 1796-1835
Matthew Biggart Kirk 1824-1879 married D.R Hulda Jones 1833-1871
John James M Kirk 1853-1888 married Mahaly Louisa Mowdy 1855-1933
Jack Theodore Kirk 1888-1965 married Iona Fowler 1909-1977
John Oliver Lester Kirk 1931-2007

So far so good, but we have to go back further than James Kirk 1720-abt 1775, for a blood DNA connection.
His Father I believe came from Scotland, and to date I have no idea who he might be.
Matthew's eldest brother was called John, which maybe named after his grandfather John Kirk.

Now to to look at my line, and again I can only go back to the same period:
Also a James Kirk 1725- married to an Elizabeth Brown (Broun) 1730- from Durisdeer, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
He also named his eldest son John 1760-.

Now as there are both named James Kirk, that in itself precludes that they came from the same Father, so I believe that then dictates we have have to go back at two further generations from here.
Sure this is a tall order, but at least we have proof genetically.

Sure this is a tall order to find Kirks in the 1600's in Scotland that might be related, but this is the first time I have had two arrows to my bow.
Maybe you're thinking even if I had a full quill of arrows it still might be very difficult, but here's hoping that somebody might get lucky please.

Scotland / Isable Kirk.
« on: Monday 23 May 22 13:54 BST (UK)  »
Through my 23&Me DNA results I have contacted a forth cousin from Scotland.
Her maternal line goes back to the surname Sparks.
Although no mention of a Kirk on her direct line, however she came up with an Isable Kirk, who married a David Sparks, and had a son Robert Sparks, see attached images.
Although we have three names in the frame Isable (Isabel), David and Robert, we cannot make any progress from there.

If someone could kindly assist here please, I would be most grateful.
