Selkirkshire / Murray family in Yarrow.

I am trying to establish the wider family of John Murray and Christian Scott. I am following a son named James Born approx. 1785 who married a Mary Scott in 1806 approx.

I would be interested to know if I'm correct in my research regarding a brother Walter but would love to know if there are other siblings.

I also have some information that the family may have been Dissenters and would also like to know if this family are Philiphaugh Murrays or not!

Roxburghshire / Miller of Hawick/Wilton

I have failed to discover where the old Mills (not weaving but corn/flour) were in the Hawick/Wilton area in the 1800-1820s period. I have a relative, Robert Scott who is described as a Millar (sic) on his daughter's wedding certificate in 1803.

Can anyone suggest where I could look please?

As I live far from the Archives in the Borders can anyone suggest any on-line resources to assist with the above please?

I am looking for the age of my ancestor James Murray on Attestation who was a Private then a Corporal in the Dumfriesshire Militia from around the early 1800s to at least 1812.

He was born in Yarrow, Selkirkshire but I am not clear about the year of Birth nor do I have the names of his parents.

Can anyone help re this photo in terms of period of history? I have photographed this framed picture which I think was a photo touched up with oil paints of my great grandmother Jane.

I am also curious as to the chain/pendant she is wearing. The pendant opens up to allow space for a couple of portraits.

See the other photo for a close up of the pendant. Is there a Masonic connection?
