when & where Born. 25 Jan 1853, Douglas Green Pendleton, Lancs

Name David Goven

Father William Goven

Mother Elizabeth ( Formerly Maitland)

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / Help Cant find David Goban before 1873

I am trying to find any information about my GGrandfather David Goben or Goban before 1873, I can find no record of who his Mother was and he was born out of Wedlock so I don't know who his Father was.

Family rumour from two sources says that his Mother was a servant to a Scottish Laird and David's Father was the son of that Laird, apparently they wanted to Marry but were not permitted to and the Son was said to have emigrated to America.

When the laird died apparently his will was challenged in an English court and some settlement was made.


I know he married in 1873 at middlewich St Michaels and all Angels
I have census records for 1981 and 1991, all show he lived in Runcorn.
He died in runcorn in 1905
he was born in Middlewich or Winsford according to the census sheets and Marriage Certificate
All records show that he was a boatman.
He was born in early 1850, I think about 1853

I have been searching for a long time now and have had no success, I would appreciate any help or advice on how to find the information I am looking for.
