Hi,

My father died when I was only 9 years old. So the information I have is sketchy. He died I believe from cancer and my mother never really told me much about him.

So I have only certain details: Died 8th May 1953  Birth Registered in Willesden, Middlesex in 1912
Francis Wallace Luke and Sarah Jane Phillips was his father and mother.

Areas of my father are such that he worked in the General Electric Company in Wembley Park Middlesex during the war as unknown but believe to be Radar. He then was a teacher at Paddington Technical College. He was a ARP in the war.

If any body can improve on my knowledge I would be grateful. Such as GEC, How qualified etc etc anything that could improve my knowledge

Hi,

My wife's father (both deceased) was James George Ward Born Willesden April 1911. In his life time he had said he served in Burma in the 2nd World War. Is his regiment traceable?

It would be nice to complete my Family Tree for my son. As James was his grandfather.

Thank You

Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Margaret Luke b 1906
« on: Tuesday 14 January 14 15:24 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Looking for details of Immigration or Travel of Margaret Rose Luke b 1906.

She was a Civil Servant and moved around quite a bit from Uganda in 1950,s to Australia, Cyprus and finally to Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The timing of these travel dates are unknown other than period of 1958 to her final death in Eastern Cape in 2000.

She could have flown but I think as a Civil Servant may have preferred to sail.

Though she was born Rose Margaret she seemed to prefer Margaret.

Any help in any of the destinations on date etc would be welcome.

South Africa / Rose Margaret Luke b 1906 d 19?? MBE Uganda 1954
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 16:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Having done a lot of research my many members of RootChat who I thank for their very hard work.

I have the following details and my assessment of what I consider.

Rose Margaret Luke was Personal Secretary to the Governor of Uganda Sir Andrew Cohen returned to England in Feb 1954 and resided with her father and mother till 1958 in Middlesex.

She was awarded MBE for her Overseas Service in 1962.

I am assuming that whilst in England that she retained either working for the OS in England or the Embassy in London.

After 1958 no trace of her was found on any Electoral Files in England.

I assume she returned to Uganda and worked for the new Governor Sir Frederick Crawford.

Why I assume this is because her Honour was services to Uganda and awarded in 1962.

But I can not prove this and was hoping that there may be some information would come from this Forum.

Fife / Mystery Boy in Fife, Dunfermaline b1948
« on: Saturday 04 January 14 11:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

After a lot of work done by RootsChat in the research of one of the Luke family.

They have said that one of my relatives Rose Margaret Luke b 1906 (spinster) resided at 90 Fool Street, Halbeath, Fife in 1955.

The address was on her travel documents to the USA on the Queen Elizabeth April 1955.

She took with her a Stewart Luke aged 7 with her who was also stated as living at the same address in Halbeath.

I have tried to trace Stewart without success as he is not a known Luke on our Family Tree.

The only details I have is from SR as 424/00 0799.

This is a mystery as to who this boy is and to what relationship he is to Rose Margaret (who uses Margaret more)

Any help will be appreciated. It does state that they intended to return to the address in Halbeath.

Thanks.

United States of America / Rose Margaret Luke b 1906 d 19?? MBE

Hi,

I am posting these details in this forum as I have a belief that the person above immigrated on the Queen Elizabeth in 1955.

She  was born 1906 in Worth Sussex. In the 50,s was Secretary for Sir Andrew Cohen Governor of Uganda and returned to England in 1954.

Awarded MBE in 1962 for services in Uganda

No further trace of her in England other than Family Search in 1955 that a Margaret Luke travelled to New York on the Queen Elizabeth GS Film 002322027, Folder 007266433 image 00788.

Having no means to confirm this is my person can somebody check the passenger records. If true then were did she reside in the USA.

She seems to prefer using Margaret other than Rose.
