Ayrshire / Lodge Farm, Lochranza Arran
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 09:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi, In the early 1920s my great uncle, then 14,  was sent from Quarriers Home, Bridge of Weir to work at Lodge Farm at Lochranza. I wonder if anybody has any information about the place, and whether it took in other boys as workers.
Thanks.

Stirlingshire / Stirling District Lunatic Asylum Minute book
« on: Monday 16 December 13 22:20 GMT (UK)  »
For people interested in the information contained in the Minute Book of the asylum 1890-1907 (as discussed on another post) you can now find this in the Archive Department at Stirling University Library. I purchased it from Ebay and donated it to the Archives so that everyone can access it. The archivist says the uni hopes to digitise the records in the future, which will be great news for family historians.

Antrim / William Campbell/Ann McFall 1884 Clintyfinnan
« on: Saturday 19 October 13 15:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i am just starting out investigating family of mine in Antrim and i would very much appreciate some help to get going.
The only record i have is a marriage certificate between William Campbell and Ann McFall 14 March 1884. They were both registered as living in Clintyfinnan, Parish of Loughguile. William's father is also William, and Ann McFall's father is recorded as Robert John McFall.

William and Ann later moved to Haggs, Stirlingshire. They are on the 1911 census there along with adopted daughter Ann Kelly.

If anyone can help with providing more information or advice, i would really appreciate it. I hope to visit PRONI at some point next year.

Stirlingshire / Cannerton Pit, Hollandbush
« on: Wednesday 09 October 13 20:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi i'm looking for any information people may have on Cannerton Pit, Hollandbush (now Banknock). I've been on the scottish mining website, but it would be interesting to find out from any members if they have a connection to this colliery, or know anything about it. I do know that when it stopped producing coal it became a brickworks.
Thanks very much.

Stirlingshire / Margaret Sneddon 1881
« on: Sunday 06 October 13 19:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i'm trying to find out about my g-great aunt Maggie Sneddon, originally from Haggs. According to 1881 census she was in the new Royal Infirmary Edinburgh listed as a patient. What i don't know is why she was there, why she wasn't treated in a more local hospital. Can anyone give me some advice on how to find this out?

Hi, i'm trying to find out what happened to my great-uncle. He was born Haggs 1904, and moved to Arran to work on a farm in 1921, on leaving Quarriers Home at Bridge of Weir. I'd love to hear any information about him. Thanks.

Stirlingshire / Mary Paton/Peter Sneddon HAGGS
« on: Monday 01 July 13 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi, i'm very keen to find out any information about Mary Muirhead Paton (born 1872). She married Peter Sneddon in 1892 in Haggs, Stirlingshire and they had 6 children. Unfortunately after 1907 she 'disappears'. In the 1911 census neither she nor Peter are mentioned, but the children are split up and living with relatives. Peter re-appears in 1916 Death certificate, where he died of bronchopneumonia in Larbert asylum. But i can't find any further trace of Mary Paton, where she went, or why she would leave her 6 children. If anyone has any information i'd love to hear from you.
