Antrim / Help with Henry Dobbin and Alice/Matilda Collins (married Belfast 1895)
« on: Tuesday 25 August 20 09:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello - I have hit a little brick wall trying to find census records and any further birth/death records for the following marriage:  Henry Dobbin and Alice Collins (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1895/10541/5839751.pdf)

I have found one son Henry born in 1896 (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1896/02153/1816737.pdf)

I have also found son Henry's marriage to a Janet Black in Govan, Lanarkshire on 17th July 1922.  Both parties are living at 34 Listhouse Buildings, Govan, Glasgow.  Henry lists his father as Henry Dobbin, Confectionery Work Labourer and Matilda Dobbin (MS Collins) - mother is marked as deceased at this date.

I am struggling to find any census records for Henry and Alice/Matilda and son Henry.  Neither can I find any further children or any record of Alice/Matilda's death prior to 1922.

Any help or suggestions appreciated :)

Many thanks!

Hello,  I am seeking to delve deeper into a family mystery.  My great great grandfather was Denis (Dennis) COLLINS who lived with his wife Margaret (nee McMahon/McMann/McMachon) in Greenock - they had four daughters Eliza, Mary Ellen, Alice and Matilda as of the 1881 census at 2 East Blackhall St, Greenock.

Margaret died suddenly on 4th January 1884, and by May 1884 Denis had moved to Waterford, Ireland and had married a much younger woman and started a second family.  There is no indication in the records that any of his daughters came with him.   I want to try to find out more about these daughters and what happened to them, but for some of them I can't seem to find any records at all:

Eliza - she married William Williamson on 7th July 1881 at St John's Greenock.  He was living with the Collins family during the 1881 census and is indicated in that census as being from Ireland.  After this point, I can find no further record of this couple or any children they may have had.

Mary Ellen - she was present at the wedding of Eliza and William and signed as a witness.  However I can find no record of her after this point.

Alice - I found Alice in Smyllum Orphanage in the 1891 census and I found a death record for her, still at Smyllum in 1895 which confirms her parents identities as Denis and Margaret (her father is marked as deceased but this is false).

Matilda - I find no record for her after the 1881 census.

I am particularly interested if finding out anything about Eliza Williamson (nee Collins), Mary Ellen Collins or Matilda Collins and I am hoping someone might be interested in helping me crack this and can offer some inspiration?

Many thanks!

Northamptonshire / George Henry 'Harry' Starmer born c 1892 Kettering
« on: Tuesday 16 July 13 00:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

If anyone has any information on the Starmer family of Kettering, in particular the family of John Watson Starmer (d 1888) and his wife Julia Bailey (1860-1944), I'd appreciate it.

Following John's death in 1888, Julia had two further children with a partner or partners yet unknown.  George Henry was born around 1892/93 and was known as Harry in the 1901 and 1911 Censuses.  I cannot locate a birth record for him.  He died in Flanders on 10 October 1918.  He was my great grandfather.

Julia also had another child Susan in 1896.  I located Susan's birth certificate and as expected there is a blank paternal column.

Any information would be appreciated, with the hope of identifying George Henry 'Harry' Starmer's father.

Many thanks!
