Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Who are Rachel/Rachael Agnew parents?
« on: Sunday 21 June 20 16:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi!

I am researching my ancestor Rachel/Rachael Agnew. I came upon this baptism record from Ireland but can't read much beyond 'Rachael of (can't read) Agnew'

Any help deciphering would be much appreciated! She is the second to last record.

Thanks in advance.

Down / Shaw Agnew
« on: Friday 14 August 15 19:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone could please help me. I've been trying to trace my family back for a long time and got it back (with difficulty) to Shaw Agnew b.Kilkeel abt.1818. He married an Eliza/Elizabeth Newell from what I can tell - though I have no marriage certificate or record.

Their children (Rachel, Sarah, Jane, James and Ellen) were baptised at Aanalong presbyterian Church.
My question is whether anyone could help me find Shaw's father? I cannot find many references to Shaw other than the Griffith's Valuation, his children's birth records and his death record (d.1879).

Thankyou in advance!

Down / Agnews of Kilkeel
« on: Monday 25 May 15 14:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am really eager to find out more about my Irish ancestry (coming from England) but I am really struggling to move the 'Agnew' line back any further.
My ancestor Rachel Agnew (name follows the female line) b.1864 Kilkeel moved to York in the 1880's I believe. But I am trying to find more on her father, Shaw Agnew.
The only records of Shaw are his children's (Ellen and Rachel) birth records, the Griffiths Valuation and his death record:

Name:   Shaw Agnew
Estimated Birth Year:   abt 1817
Date of Registration:   Jan-Feb-Mar 1879
Death Age:   62
Registration district:   Kilkeel
Volume:   1
Page:   571
FHL Film Number:   101589

I can't find a record of a marriage to Eliza Newell who is the mother to his children and recorded as his wife in the Griffiths valuation. Nor can I find him on a census.
I really want to move this line further back, if anyone can help me in anyway I would be really grateful,
Thanks, R.

Down / Shaw Agnew

Hello,
I'm researching the Agnew line of my family tree and it has taken me to Kilkeel. I have an ancestor named Rachel Agnew b.abt 1864 and whose parents I believe to be Shaw Agnew (b.abt 1817, d.1879 Ireland.) and Eliza Newell.

Ireland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1620-1911
Rachel Agnew
Father   Shaw Agnew
Mother   Eliza Newell
Birth   19 Aug 1864 - Kilkeel, Down, Ireland

Apart from the above and the Griffiths evaluation I can't find any sign of a Shaw Agnew until the record of his death. I am struggling to move this line any further back. Would anyone be able to find anything else on Shaw or who his parents were please?
Thankyou in advance

The Common Room / Look Up Request - Rachel Agnew
« on: Friday 07 November 14 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,
I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor Rachel Agnew who married a William Eason in 1895. I believe she may have been born in Ireland and may have had a sister Ellen Atkinson nee Agnew who is living in York in 1891 with her Nephew Henry/Harry Agnew (may be Rachel's child).
If any information on her parents or life before her marriage in 1895 could be found I would be very grateful,
Many thanks

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Look Up Request. Joseph Henry Agnew
« on: Wednesday 20 August 14 14:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm trying to find my great great great Granddad on the 1891 or 1901 census but he doesn't seem to be there.

On his child's birth certificate he is called Joseph Henry Agnew, whilst on the 1911 Census he is called George Henry Agnew. I think he was born around 1888-1889 and he marred Bertha Ann Stutt in 1909 in Sculcoates and died in 1920 in Hull.

If anyone could find him and maybe his parents in the earlier census' I would be very grateful.
Many thanks, Rachel
