Lanarkshire / James Toll/Toal 1875-1922 Census Enquiry
« on: Tuesday 06 February 18 14:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I've been struggling to find James Toll/Toal (1875-1922) in the 1901 & 1911 Scotland Census. Ive tried a few variants on the surname but nothing yet.   He was married to Elizabeth (Lily) Corrigan/Carrigan and they lived in the Shettleston/Parkhead areas of Glasgow.

Thanks in advance

Clackmannanshire / Alexander Sharp
« on: Monday 14 August 17 23:56 BST (UK)  »
I have Alexander Sharp from Clackmannanshire born around 1790 as my 4th Great Grandfather.

He married Christian Ross 1789 - 1869  on 4th July 1807.

I'm wondering if any member has been able to identify who Alexander's parents were?

Clackmannanshire / Thomas Ross & Christina Munro/Murrie
« on: Friday 07 July 17 00:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi Folks,

After a brick wall broken by DNA Match and a fresh eye on my Mother's ancestry, I believe that my 5th Great Grandparents were Thomas Ross and Christina Munro/Murrie.

Their daughter Christina ( abt 1789 - 1869 ) married Alexander Sharp.

Christina and Alexander's son William ( abt 1815 - 1894 ) married Margaret Sharp ( abt 1813 - 1885).  Margaret was from Clackmannan as well.

Any other distant relatives from this line?

Lanarkshire / Electoral Register Question
« on: Thursday 16 February 17 00:47 GMT (UK)  »
I have been on Ancestry looking at the Glasgow Electoral Registers. My family moved to a new home in Springboig around 1945/1946. However my Grandparents are still registered in the previous home in 1948.

Could someone provide some background to the Registers back then?

Thanks in advance.

Would these still exist?   My ancestor settled in Glasgow perhaps prior to 1832 but I can't find any shipping records to see if he sailed from Ireland.

The Common Room / William Beardmore's Parkhead Forge Employee Records
« on: Friday 26 February 16 23:50 GMT (UK)  »
I have a lot of ancestors who worked at Parkhead Forge in the early 20th Century to mid 1950s.  Not a lot of information online from what I can find, but is there old records available to find out dates of employment at the Forge?

Lanarkshire / Longriggend Schools?
« on: Tuesday 19 January 16 02:17 GMT (UK)  »
Would anybody know if Longriggend had its own RC School in the late 19th to early 20th Century? I have never found any information on this and wonder if the children of the village went to St David's in Whiterigg?

Scotland / Arthur Sherry born around 1816
« on: Tuesday 30 July 13 14:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for further information on Arthur Sherry born around 1816 in Ireland but moved to Scotland at an unknown date.

In 1832 he married Isabella McFadden and I believe over time they lived in Gorbals, Rutherglen & Govan.( I don't have their marriage certificate )

I have most of their children but by 1856 Arthur was dead as he is listed as deceased in his son Patrick's marriage to Alice Drummond on 14th Nov of that year.

In the 1841 Census on Ancestry the transcription is Arthur Sherra but no mention of Parents.  He may have had a brother called Michael.

Many thanks for any info!
