Hi,

I am trying to trace William John Henry Wooster.
He was born c.1883 in Harrow in middlesex

I know he was in the 9th middlesex, duke of cambridges own, stationed in dinapore some time in 1916 but this is the last I know.

He is not listed on the cwgc - where should I look next to find him

Many thanks

Becky

Completed Census Requests / Missing pages - Found thankyou
« on: Sunday 21 May 06 15:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi all -
can anyone tell me if there is a complete BMD listing anywhere other than ancestry.

Family stories have told of a double wedding where a brother and sister married their respective partners.
Now I know the surnames of 3 of the four of them and am hunting for the last one.  Typically the pages with all four of them - the W section in 1926 - is missing.

Where else can I look to get this missing name?  I am reluctant to have to buy certificates as they are fairly distant but as much as anything want to confirm the family stories about this wedding.

Many thanks for any suggestions

Devon Completed Lookup Requests / Swimbridge - st James church
« on: Sunday 14 May 06 20:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I have found reference to a  guide to the names inscribed on the gravestones at St James' church in Swimbridge.

Is there anyone with access to this that would be willing to look up a couple of names for me?

I am interested in Squire and Morrish both in the area in the 1700's - not sure of death dates or even if they would be buried there yet.

many thanks

Herts Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 census HILL
« on: Saturday 21 January 06 21:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me.

I have found what I think is 'one of mine' on the 1841 census but there is not really enough info on the index to tell.
Does anyone have an image they can check and let me know if there are any details such as relationships or place of birth.
Also confirmation of Elizabeths occupation would be helpful.

The details I have from the index are:
Address: The Noke, Hundred
Folio ref:HO107/0439/4/~F7

James Hill, aged 45 - Agricultural Labourer
Samuel Hill, aged 32 - Agricultural Labourer
Elizabeth Hill, aged 29 - P L
Hannah Hill, aged 5

Many thanks

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / 1841 LEE lookup request
« on: Monday 26 December 05 23:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Is anyone able to look up this family for me

Thomas Lee (b. hinton 1803)
throughout other census thomas is a carpenter living in winchester

I would also expect to find his children
Ann Eliza,  Benjamin,  Charles,  George, Harriet

Also I am interested to see where his wife is.  In 1851 Louisa Lee was living in Hursley Park the household of sir william heathcote.  She is listed as married and her occupation as 'still a maid and wife of a carpenter'  Is she with Thomas or sir Heathcote in 1841?

Many thanks

Occupation Interests / when or where was this photo on the rails
« on: Saturday 10 December 05 23:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me - I have found this photo among a family collection.  I have no idea who the relative in the photo is so was hoping to help me someone may be able to judge a date, or even an area that the stock may belong to. I do have various people that have worked on the railways at various points in history so hopefully a rough date will help narrow it down.

The uniforms look like forces - is this usual for railway workers?

Any ideas anyone?

Many thanks
