Australia / Desperately seeking Daisy ROBERTS, nee SKETCHLEY (AKA Peggy LAMERTS/LAMERTO)
« on: Wednesday 14 October 20 21:16 BST (UK)  »
There’s a missing 15 years of Daisy’s life that I am keen to find out out about.

Daisy Veronica Sketchley (daughter of James Sketchley and Annie Driver) was born Nov 1902 in Perth, and at age 14, married Owen Griffith Roberts also in Perth in August 1917. They had one child, Owen Ronald Roberts in June 1918.

They divorced in 1921 and there’s numerous reports of the case in WA newspapers in Trove from August to October of that year.

The next record I can find of Daisy is in the Aust. Electoral Rolls in Sydney in 1936 & 1937.

She died of TB in 1939 - in Prince Henry Hospital, Little Bay, Sydney. The death transcription shows she was also known as “Peggy Lamerts (maybe Lamerto). The informant on the DC was a ‘Hospital Clerk’.

It seems that she became estranged from the family after the divorce, and her son was bought up by her mother. It’s also possible that she partnered up with someone with the surname Lamerts/Lamerto or some similar sounding name, but I can’t nail down any likely candidates.

Would really appreciate any help or suggestions that might help to fill in these missing 15 years from when she was divorced in Perth in 1921 and re-appeared in Sydney in 1936.

Regards ….. Sel

Hi again,
This pic of my wife's mother taken in 1937 at Weston-super-Mare requires some TLC. Amongst other things, there's a nasty blotch on Jean's face which needs repair.
Would really appreciate help on this.
Many thanks .... Sel

Hi to all the great restorers on this Forum. Hope you are all keeping safe and well in these troublesome times.
This pic surfaced recently after years of obvious neglect. I just don't have the skills or the software to bring it to life. I've scanned it at the best resolution my scanner will allow. Hope this helps.
All attempts to restore will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks .... Sel

Hello Rootschat photo editing pros,

I have recently turned my family history attention to dealing with the many photos/images I have in the family collection. At this stage I would appreciate some guidance on how to deal with the various (1) digital image files downloaded from our family cameras/memory cards, and (2) digital images sent to me electronically.

All are JPEG files with varying file sizes. Many have good pixel dimensions (eg 4000x3000), others not so good (eg 687x983).

Questions:
1. Does it make sense to progressively convert these to TIFF before any editing (I have developed some basic skills using native software available on my Mac desktop) to avoid further deterioration?
2. The software also allows me to change “Resolution” (I guess this refers to DPI Height & DPI Width) - should I be doing this now, or is this only applicable if/when the image is to be printed?

Many thanks for your advice and comments.

Glamorganshire / Desperately Seeking Sarah Ellen LEE
« on: Monday 27 May 19 22:26 BST (UK)  »
Sarah Ellen LEE, b. Cardiff 19 May 1897. She was the eighth of eleven children born to John LEE and Sarah Jane HASTE.

She married John Andrews TAYLOR, in Cardiff 28 Jul 1919. (Both the GRO Index, and MC shows her as Sarah H (Helen) TAYLOR.)

Sarah and John had four children - Evelyn b.1920, John Andrews (jnr) b. 1921, Molly b. 1923 and Stephen Andrews b. 1924. Note that Andrews is a middle name. I believe that all children are now deceased.

The family story is that around the late 1920s, Sarah and John’s marriage broke down. John formed a new relationship with Sarah’s older sister Caroline Jane LEE. At the time Caroline was married to Alfred TAYLOR (no relation to John), and had two children - Georgina (b.1919, and Joyce b. 1921- both now deceased.) Alfred left his family in 1929 and went to America.

John and Caroline raised their now six children and had a long life together, subsequently marrying in 1962. John died in 1968, Caroline in 1986.

I can’t find any record of Sarah after the birth record of her son Stephen Andrews TAYLOR in 1921. I can’t nail down with any certainty the marriages of any of her children, and therefore unable to track any living descendants.

All help/hints/suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all, this old B&W needs a bit of TLC from someone with more skills than I have.
The power lines in the bottom left are fine, but in the RH bottom area there's some scratches and an unsightly curved shaped scrape/stain. Not sure what's caused this - maybe a coffee cup? It's been as is for the past 50+ years.

Would really appreciate all attempts to bring this pic back.

Many thanks .... Sel

Hi folks, I need help from one or more of the skilful restorers on this Forum. I just don't have the capabilities to do much with this at all. This is the last pic we have of my wife's grandfather - he lived to 95, but this one was taken at age 80.

My original is only 43x60mm - it looks like it may have been cut from a larger photo. I have scanned it at 1200x1200 and have not fiddled with any of the image adjustment settings on my scanner (fading, grain, dust, unsharp mask etc).

Any restores will be much appreciated. And if I can do anything more with the scanning process to make it easier for you, please let me know.

Many thanks .... Sel James

Hi folks,
I have found a death for a Sarah Ann ROWE in Free BMD, Mar 1886, Age 46, Bury, 8c/340.
Would there be a church/burial record for this event? It looks like this is the correct Sarah Ann ROWE, but I am loath to order the certificate without narrowing it down further.

Many thanks for any help.
