Australia / Where did Murdoch Macdonald die in 1888?
« on: Wednesday 20 November 13 08:55 GMT (UK)  »
Found and bought his death certificate from Victoria. Can't decipher where he died although I know it is near Wycheproof. I include three extracts from portions of the certificate to see if anyone can tell me whether it is the name of his farm/homestead or village/town. The district is either Bunguluke or Bungeduke, I'm not sure which.

I have been trying to find the marriages of his three eldest daughters, Catherine, Christina and Margaret, but with no luck so far. It would seem that no one with a father named Murdoch married in Victoria between 1855 and 1888.

The signature is of Annie McDonald his youngest daughter at the age of 21, according to the death certificate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Laing Family from North Uist 1853
« on: Wednesday 14 August 13 12:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
More ancestors of mine left N.U. on HMS Hercules 1853 and only some arrived Port Adelaide on that ship. They were all from the same Laing family.
The father Alexander Laing died N.U. about 1847, and the mother Catherine (Macdonald) Laing my ancestor, immigrated with her children on Hercules.
They were eldest daughter Janet (19) and new husband Angus Ferguson (27), daughter Margaret Laing (17) {these three arrived P.A. on Hercules}, mother Catherine (45), Ann (16), Ranald (14) listed as Ronald, Alexander (12) and Flora (8) were on Hercules when it left Campbelltown 1852 and were reported as transhipped to Olivia sometime during the voyage. Probably when Hercules was in quarantine in Cork, Ireland Feb, '53.
They do not appear on the Olivia passenger list. A search of all passenger lists for 1852/53 failed to find any of them.
Any information about the Ferguson's and Janet Laing after they arrived Adelaide would be great.
Illumination of possible connections to the missing Laing family members would also aid me in my search.
PS Flora was aged 8 at the time, don't know why funny face appeared there in the text!

Australia / HMS Hercules 1853 Port Adelaide

Hi all, Trying to find ancestors that landed from Hercules 26 July1853.
They are:
Murdoch Macdonald (40), and daughters Catherine (6), Christy (4) & Margaret (2). His wife Mary (Cameron), my direct ancestor, died in Queenstown, Ireland on 7 Feb 1853 and their son Donald (1) also died there on 14 Feb 1853.
They all came from North Uist and the Tigharry area. They are described in the passenger list as 'A healthy nice looking family, but very poor'.
Mary's father was Donald Cameron, of Claddach Kirkibost, Lochmaddy, North Uist.
I have traced 1610 ancestors so far, most from N.U. Anyone requiring info from that area please feel free to ask me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated  :).
