London and Middlesex / John Sykes
« on: Sunday 02 January 22 16:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

Researching the Sykes family with John and Mary Sykes, around the parishes of St Dunstan Stepney first known child John 24 Jul 1814 • St Dunstan Stepney, second known child of Isaac 5 Oct 1817 • St Alphage Greenwich Kent in which father is noted as a gun maker, this entry has some initials in the description which I cant read,  then Joseph 28 Dec 1814 • St Dunstan Stepney London, I am trying to get a bit further with this family but not sure how to go about it  with John Sykes the father as there are many with this name.

I am aware of some trees on Ancestry but again not sure if these are correct.

Thank you.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / St Patricks RC Livsey St Manchester Lancashire
« on: Thursday 27 June 19 15:23 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

I am trying to find out further details in the Parish Register of St Patricks as above.  I am trying to find out why Margaret Goulden is buried in our family plot which is Roman Catholic in Rochdale.  There are 17 burials in a purchased plot, most are family but I dont know who Margaret is ? I know her maiden name was Butler from a birth certificate of Philip Goulden born in 1850. Various spellings of Goulden, Golding, Goolding etc...

I ordered the death certificate and this states Margaret was the widow of Philip Goulden a rag dealer, he is buried at St Patricks, now the only one I can find is in 1841 Census flag Alley Ludgate St 1851 Dyche or Wyche Street (off Rochdale Rd).  I followed up and ordered the Probate for Philip Goulden who died in 1856 this only gave his two sons names, James Philip Goulden and John Thomas Goulden, also a daughter Honora Goulden, and Margaret Goulden the youngest.  in 1841 there is a Jane Butler 60 years old possible mother of Margaret I think she died 1842 2Q dont know where she is buried, any help appreciated.

I found some Goulden entries at the above church and was hoping for further details to help. I have my tree on ancestry where the Goulden family have been included.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Sculcoates Marriage in 1787
« on: Wednesday 03 October 18 12:27 BST (UK)  »
everyone
I need a bit more help this time on my East Yorkshire roots.

Just a tiny query really

I have the marriage of William Hunter to Sarah Thompson at Sculcoates on 13 May 1787 and I have not got any further with the Hunter line therein.  So I thought about the witnesses to the marriage who are a Susanna Hall and a Thomas McRhie (McHie) (could be Mckay) and I have the Hunter line downwards...the Thompsons were related to Caius Thompson a merchant and owner of ships.

I know there are Hall relatives as one of the children was baptised

Robert Hall Hunter was baptised 3 July 1791 at Sutton on Hull  son of William and Sarah Hunter (father was a wheelwright)

My question is how can I find out which Susanna Hall is ours being a witness well which can I be sure of ...

Thanks again.

Australia / John COOK
« on: Saturday 22 September 18 17:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone I decided to put my post here,

I have John Cook mentioned on a grave stone inscription here in Rochdale Lancashire as dying in Melbourne Australia in 1854 and buried 17 November 1854.  He was born 1820 in Rochdale Lancashire.  The reason for this query is I wondered why he ended up in Australia.  I did find a death entry sometime ago for him.

Dont know where he is buried..
Dont know if he was married..

How can I find for what reason he went out to Australia, please?

Thank you to anyone who can enlighten me..

 Hi everyone

I am seeking more about Caroline Padget daughter of George Padget a labourer she was born in 1873 from 1939 register. First husband William Henry Sykes then she married John Turner 1947 Register Office in Islington in Canonbury. Both  certificates  state her father as George Padget a labourer. There are some trees on Ancestry but not sure about them.  I cannot find on 1881census to start with or baptism. . It is not my direct line just interested in extended family.

Also which would be nearest cemetery in 1956 1957 for this area of London.

Thank you to anyone that can help.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Sarah Allen in Hunslet Yorkshire
« on: Saturday 18 August 18 14:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have done research on my friends tree and somehow I dont feel convinced I have the right Sarah Allen.  I have her marriage death and burial, but it is the linking I dont feel 100 per cent with. Wondered if it was a mistake in the register.

I can only find one birth of Sarah Allen (Allan) in Hunslet in 1878 at Myrtle Street this is to a father Joseph and Emma (Emily) Allen. This family from Leicestershire.  I have her on 1901 census and her death in 1933 in Lancashire. Just before the 1939 register which might have given another clue.

My problem is on her marriage certificate to Arthur Burns in Holbeck at St Matthew Holbeck Yorkshire  in 1901 her father is noted as William Allen a mechanic ( the other families were Iron Turners etc.)  Cannot find her on census before 1901 for sure except the other one with the Joseph and Emma Allen. In 1901 she is with her husband to be.  Have I got the wrong Sarah Allen...methinks. thanks to anyone who responds ....
