England / Francis and Alice Parsons
« on: Saturday 06 March 21 11:32 GMT (UK)  »
We are struggling to find a family in the 1901 census - Francis Robert Parsons (b 1867) and Alice Parsons (b 1875), one child at least, Gladys would have been born c 1900. We have them on the 1911 census but that is all. Can anyone help please?

England / Willie Eade/Emma King marriage
« on: Monday 08 April 19 20:16 BST (UK)  »
Hello. Trying to track down the marriage of a Willie Eade and Emma King. Willie was born around 1866 and Emma about the same time. They are in the 1901 census with numerous children, William being born first around 1885. His father was Thomas and Mother Elizabeth. He appears to have been born in Paddington as was she. He died in 1908.

I have searched extensively for a marriage record but with no luck. I have used the name Willie (I believe that is birth name) and William. There are a few William Eade/Emma marriages but they don't seem to fit.

Can anyone help please.

Thank you

Mark

The Common Room / Dent publishers
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

My grandmother's uncle was called Percy McDonald and was an accountant at J M Dent publishers in London (until he was called up and killed in WW1 in 1917) J M Dent were well known for publishing the Everyman series of books.

I am trying to find out if there are any company records referring to Percy's employment there.

Any ideas where to start?

Sorry, but I also put this question in the occupations forum as I didn't know the best place for it.

Thank you

Armed Forces / Percy McDonald - date of birth
« on: Sunday 24 July 16 20:56 BST (UK)  »
Hello. I am trying to prove a date of birth and wonder if there are any military records surviving that might have it. Long shot I know but worth a try?

The details of the soldier are:

Percy McDonald
Service No: G/37134
Private
Queens (Royal West Surrey) Regiment
1st Battalion
Killed in action 23rd April 1917
Born: Stepney
Enlisted: Wandsworth

As I say I wonder if their are any military records surviving that will quote his date of birth?

Thank you

London and Middlesex / Ellen Vernon formerly McDonald
« on: Wednesday 20 July 16 19:13 BST (UK)  »
Trying to work something out. Percy Vernon was born to Ellen Vernon formerly McDonald and George Vernon in 1878. Oddly, later in life Percy is called Percy McDonald. His older sister Florence appears to have been born Florence McDonald Vernon in 1877. So now I'm trying to work out who McDonald is and who Ellen might have first married. There is the name Montague McDonald as husband on Ellen's death certificate, not George.

All very confusing - any thoughts please

Thank you

World War One / More about a soldiers death - WW1
« on: Friday 16 June 06 13:26 BST (UK)  »
I have a great uncle who died in WW1, but all I have is the following:

In Memory of
Private PERCY McDONALD

G/3734, 1st Bn., The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment)
who died
on 23 April 1917

Remembered with honour
ARRAS MEMORIAL

What I am really interested in is the circumstances of his death. I realise that it is unlikely I will ever find anything about him individually, but is there a way of finding out what his Battalion or Regiment were doing that day?
