Renfrewshire / James Murphy Barrhead Postmaster
« on: Friday 20 March 20 04:32 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me with my search for James Murphy. He was born on April 8th 1899,
His parents were William Murphy and Mary Finlay, he had a sister Minnie and a brother William. He was also half brother to Mary Jane Connis, my Mother. This is the information I have that I know to be accurate.
Can anyone fill me in with what may have happened to him. I was told he was the postmaster in Barrhead Post Office, maybe around 1920.? That he did marry ? and that they lost a child in a terrible accident about the same time. I cant seem to get any further than the accurate information I do have so hoping someone can help me out.  Thanks, weeblether

Perthshire / 1908 Perth State Home, any help please
« on: Sunday 23 September 18 07:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have a family member who lived in Glasgow and also Paisley, Renfrewshire. In 1908 she was sent to State Home Perth, for three years for drunkenness. Her husband had died the previous year and her three children were sent to live with a relative. My questions are, Where was the State Home in Perth? Can I get records of inmates? Why would she have been sent so far from home? Would she have been sentenced by a court in Glasgow or Paisley? Hope some one can shed some light on this for me and show me how to get some more information. weeblether
