Lancashire / St Johns Churh Bolton Rd the Height. Missing Gravestones
« on: Saturday 07 July 18 01:11 BST (UK)  »
When I first started my family history search in the 1990s I used various FH Sites/Forums and on one someone wrote that in the late 1960s/early 1970s the River Irwell was Diverted and the loop at the top St Simon Steet cut out, whilst this work was taking place a large number of grave stones were found in the river and that they all came from St Johns Churh Bolton Rd the Height,Salford. not realising at that time how many of my  relatives are buried there.
After many online searches I cannot find which forum it was or anything online related to the removal of the grave stones.
Can anyone help, What I would like to know is were records of the stones taken after finding them or any photos taken and who autherised the  removal

Lancashire / St Johns Church, Pendlebury/Irlam o`th Height/Pendleton/Salford
« on: Sunday 08 March 15 00:00 GMT (UK)  »
Not sure where to put this but hope someone can help.Sometime last year I found a posting concerning Headstones from St Johns Church, Pendlebury which were uncovered during work on the diversion of the River Irwell in the Saint Simon St, Sussex St, Springfield Lane, area of Salford,(Which is a fair way from St Johns, Pendlebury} The work took place in the late 60s early 70s, I cannot remember the forum it was that I found the post, but searches on the 3 forums I use came up blank, and no luck with general searches for "River Irwell diversion" or "St Johns Church, Pendlebury missing Headstones" If anyone can help with either these events I would be very grateful.

My GGrandfather Cornelius Langshaw b1864 in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, Married Rose Ann Devine in 1894 Salford, They had 7 children all born in Salford, but never able to find any Baptism records for them until recently when I found 2 Baptisms both on the same day
at St Matthews, Manchester on 29 Nov 1911, Olive born Dec 1905 and John born Aug 1911, But living at 6 Eltoft St, Manchester. I know the family moved into 25 Mulgrave St, Lwr Broughton, Salford, Lancashire between 1901 and 1911 when they appear on the 1911 Census,
and the family lived there untill demolition in the 1970s.
My GGrandfather was a Police Constable in Salford, Could he have been transfered to Manchester because of a special event or Emergency that was taking place in Manchester
if so, what!

Patrick is my GGGrandfather and I would like to try and find Patricks Birth/Baptism and any history of his Parents.

All I new about Patrick was based on the 1881 UK Cenus and as he died in 1890 in Salford, Lancashire
there was not much to go on, son Stephen was born in Canada 1863 and daughter Elizabeth in East India
1874,
But thanks to Rootschats Canada forum and  Armed Forces forum, I now have his marriage in Ontario, Canada. and his enlistment in the 1st Battalion 17th Foot regiment in Ireland 1857. Plus Stephens Baptism

Armed Forces / Not sure I have the correct Forum
« on: Thursday 05 June 14 17:37 BST (UK)  »
I recently discoverd on the Canadian forum that my GGGrandfather Patrick Ryan b1839  Limerick, Ireland, was stationed in Canada where he Married his Wife Bridget Flannery b1835 in  Clare, Ireland , Patrick was a private in the 17th regiment. Parents Edmund Ryan and Johanna Ryan of County Limerick. Bridget's parents were Daniel Flannery and Louise Gledson of County Clare,They were Married at Saint Patrick in Quebec City, Canada 17 Nov  1863 and on the 26 Dec 1863 their son Stephen was born, (my GGrandfather)
All the above information was very kindly provided by "cosmac" on the Canadian forum
What I would like to find out now is what the 17th Regiment means?
When and how they arrived in Canada.
I know they were in East India in 1874 because that's when their 2nd child Eliabeth was born and I know they were in Salford Lancashire UK from the 1881 Census, so would it be possible to trace their travels from Canada to the uk???
Thankyou in anticipation

I am hoping someone may be able to help me find the marriage of my GGGrandparnts, Patrick Ryan Birth 1839 Limerick Ireland & Bridget Ryan Birth 1835 Clare Ireland.
I don`t know if they married in Ireland or in Canada where their 1st child, my GGrandfather was born, Stephen Ryan Birth 1864 and their their
2nd child Elizabeth Ryan Birth 1874 was in India.
I am assuming that Patrick was in the army and that there must be army records that may relate to Patrick & Bridget`s Marriage or even Stephen & Elizabeths births??? or am I being very silly!!!
The family moved (Posted) from Canada to India sometime between 1863/4
(Stephens birth) and 1874 (Elizabeths birth)
and moved to the UK sometime between 1874 and 1881 and appear on the 1881 UK census.
I have read on this site that Canada become independent from Britain in 1867
so possibly they moved to India after this date!
