I am interested if anyone has evidence of a connection between Billyard/Billiald/etc family histories in the counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

I descend from Billiald families as early as late 1590's in East Markham region and know of an individual who has records of his history in Lincolnshire.  We would like to know if there is evidence the two groups are related.

Thank you for any leads or insight!

I now have confirmation that SAMUEL BILYARD was my GGG grandfather and MARY BOOTH my GGG grandmother.  I have a birth or christening date for Samuel ~1790 in 'Markham' and death date 12 Feb 1875; marriage to Mary in West Markham 24 Nov 1812;  Mary born 1879, buried 2 Jan 1830; children John, Richard, William (my GG grandfather), Martha, and Abraham, with birth and marriage details.

Can anyone confirm Samuel's FATHER to be RICHARD BILLIALD and mother HANNAH TAYLOR?

I have no information of Mary Booth's parents so any additional information about her would also be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

 Lynn

PS:  It may be premature to ask for confirmation on the previous generation(s):

I have possible father of Richard Billiald (b. 1754) as RICHARD BILLIALD b. 31 Jul 1754 at Gramson; his second spouse  Hannah b. 7 Feb 1769 at West Markham.

If this the correct set of parents, then I have possible father of this Richard to be RICHARD Billiald b. 1725 place unknown; married to Martha Smith , 8 children all born East Markhan.

I hope I am headed in the right direction :)

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Brickwall - Markham area Billiald
« on: Wednesday 13 November 13 04:48 GMT (UK)  »
I have a variety of records from the MSS-cat Collection from the University of Nottingham that have my presumed Billiald / Billiard / Billyard ancestors.   But before I exert more energy searching and start requesting look ups, I need advice from those of you close to the region who do the lookups....

Land foeffment and church business records tell me the Billialds were in the West and East Markham area as early as 1590's and they continued to live in the immediate area, evidently for several generations (according to christening records from familysearch.com)  Besides East and West Markham, a group lived in Fledborough over the same time span.

Can I assume these Billiald's are related?  (The surname is quite rare, is it not?)

My list of Billiald males at this time includes given name, location, christening year OR marriage year and/or spouse.  I can tell in some cases who are brothers as children but cannot distinguish them once they had sons of their own.

If several men were having sons and those sons stayed in the same area and had families, is there any way I can sort them out and find a direct line to my known ancestors?  It seems each man of a particular time frame or generation had sons that he named William, Thomas, Richard, Nathaniel, etc. and these same names were also used by (what I 'assume') that man's brother(s).

I realize I need to work back from my known ancestors one generation at a time, but is it realistic I will be able to eventually sort them out?!

Many thanks for advice or just an opinion!

I have several birth years for a William Billyard born to Samuel Billyard and Mary Booth in East Markham, Notts.

Other William sons were born to Billyard men in the Markham area through several generations so I am having trouble confirming his exact year of birth --

Birth or christening was January 1818 according to a handful of family trees and entries on familysearch.org and ancestry.com.  But I know people cut and paste information and errors can be passed along from family tree to family tree.

Notice how the census records do not match:

1851 UK census (done in March) in Ordsall, Notts William age 32 = born or christened 1819

US census records--
1860 census New York William = age 36   = born 1824   (Mary Anne age 31)
1870 census Illinois   William  = age 48    = born 1822   (Mary Anne age 43)
1880 census Illinois   William  = age 58    = born 1822   (Mary Anne age 54)

According to his headstone in Deselm Cemetery of Kankakee County:

On Feb. 10, 1888 he was 73 years and 27 days at time of his death

But if he died on Feb. 10, 1888 and was 73 y 27 d…….
That would make his birth date on January 14, 1815

I know this is the correct William Bilyard on the headstone and the census records as the family group is consistent .  (Bilyard is the US spelling)

Did he fib about his age to census takers?  It appears Mary Anne's age wiggles a bit, as well!  Would there be a reason to fib about their ages?

I hope that a parish christening record in or near East Markham where I believe Samuel Billyard and spouse Mary (Booth) were raising a family will put to rest my confusion.  What worries me is that I may have an error with his parents as Samuel and Mary but UK distant cousins provided me with that generation.

Thank you for any help!

Requesting a look up of William BILLYARD or BELLIARD with spouse Mary Ann and child Mary Ann in Ordsall, Notts

Have seen reference to this census record but would appreciate a confirmation of the information.  I have conflicting birth year and confusion with several William's.

Thank you so very much!
