Immigrants & Emigrants - General / Niel / Faulkner-White - Burma / India
« on: Tuesday 30 April 13 11:00 BST (UK)  »
My daughter is trying the help her partner find details of his mothers ancestors (British / Irish) who lived for several generations in India and Burma in the late 1800's through to the mid 1900's.  His mother was actually born in Mandalay Burma in 1933.

Her father was Joseph Patrick Niel b abt 1900 in Burma - a railway engineer and Lt in British Army in WW2.  He died in Burma in 1947 so I assume he survived the notorious Burma Railway.

Trying to find information on the Niel family and also the Faulkner-White family who lived in India and Burma.  Joseph's mother was Margaret Faulkner-White b 1916 Burma - daughter of a Dr Faulkner-White and a native Burmese.  He was a doctor with the British Army in Burma / India around the turn of the Century.  He is believed to have been of Irish origin, however his family may have been in India for a couple of generations.

Any help - links gratefully received.

Regards

Alan

Suffolk / Dorothy Jinkerson / Walker
« on: Friday 15 June 12 11:42 BST (UK)  »

I've just unearthed details of a marriage between Dorothy Hilda Jinkerson and Richard Victor Hugh Walker, who married in Lowestoft around 1920.

Richard was my GM's youngest brother, and I've run in to a brick wall trying to find details out about Richard's father (and my GGF Peter Walker).

I'm wondering if anyone has details of descendants / relatives that I may be able to contact.

Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Lowestoft Fishermans Memorial
« on: Monday 23 November 09 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
Is anyone able to check the Fishermans Memorial at St Margarets Church, Lowestoft.

I'm trying to establish whether my GGF Peter (Robert) Walker was lost at sea between 1908 and 1916.

No death record has been found on Free BMD or in the Waveney Cemeteries index.

Renfrewshire / Stevenson 1851 census, Kilbarchan
« on: Thursday 08 November 07 16:23 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to trace my wifes GGF John Stevenson, b abt 1834 Kilbarchan.  John had a brother James.

Original line of enquiry via other family members led me to the Stevensons of Barnbeth, but no John appears in 1841 census.

However John, son of William and Rebecca of correct age appears at Linwood Village. They also had a son younger son James

If anyone is looking up 1851 census I'd be interested to find out any clues as to whereabouts of  John (age 17), and James (age 14)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1861,1871 liverpool census
« on: Thursday 01 March 07 21:47 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for my GGF Peter Walker, b apr - jun 1858.

from his marriage certificate, his father's name is given as name John Walker

in 1881 Peter was on board a fishing vessel in Lowestoft

Peter's childrens names included Harold, Sydney, Rhoda, and Hugh none of which figure in his wife's family tree.  Another child Alfred was possibly named after his wife's half brother, but had a middle name HURN, which may possibly be from Peter's mother's side.

Any help gratefully accepted.
