Oxfordshire / Oxfordshire War Memorials
« on: Friday 17 February 17 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I've recently started photographing and recording names on Oxfordshire war memorials (including those which were formerly in Berkshire).

If anyone has relatives recorded on memorials in the county and would like a photo, please let me know. Likewise, if anyone has information on any casualties recorded on memorials in the county, I would be happy to hear from you.

My research focus is Second World War casualties, but any information would be interesting.

For anyone interested, there are a number of good books and websites which detail men and women recorded on local memorials already, such as:

Hi

Does anyone know where the records for Knutsford Cemetery are held (for the period of 1940-49)? Are they publicly accessible?

Thanks

Lancashire / Fleetwood - did your relative serve in WW2?
« on: Tuesday 10 November 15 12:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I recently purchased a group of portrait photos of men who served in the Second World War. They seem to have been collected for an exhibition at some point, as they all have labels with their names.

All the men seem to be from the Fleetwood area, and have worked for the same company or organisation. There are photos of men in the Army, RAF, Royal Navy and Merchant Navy.

One of the photos indicates that it should be returned to the owner, but sadly this was not done. So I am hoping that family members may come forward and claim these photos now.

If you are from the Fleetwood/Lancashire area and recognise any of the following names, and think this might be a photo of them - please get in touch via a private message.

Family names are:

Barrowclough
Colley
Coulthurst
Craven
Dickinson
Dickson
Fielding
Hardern (Harden?)
Hetherington
Hudson
Leadbetter
Ligo
Moon
Parkinson
Paley
Robson
Snape
Spivey
Stansfield
Swarbrick
Thompson
Ward
Whiteside

I know it is a long shot, but I hope that I may be able to reunite some of these photos with the families of the men.

Matt

Hi

I hope someone may be able to help. Is anyone able to access copies of the Westmoreland Gazette for late November/December 1947 at a local library or local studies archive? I live in Oxfordshire, and the paper doesn't seem to be available online to view anywhere.

I am looking for information on a German POW who died in November 1947 and was buried at St. Ninian's churchyard. There may be a reference in a newspaper of the period as it appears he died in an accident. It is a bit of a mystery and I've been in contact with the church and their records do not have any more details.

If anyone can help I'd be pleased to hear from you!

Many thanks

Hello

I am trying to find out if the grave of Edward Bullwinkel in Wrexham Cemetery is a military grave.
He died on the 16 January 1948, and the grave number is 10186.
If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Many thanks
