Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Burials at Holy Trinity, Barrow-upon-Soar
« on: Wednesday 19 April 17 19:01 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am seeking help finding two Burials at Holy Trinity, Barrow.

Mary RIDER/RYDER between 1793 & 1798.
( Mary was baptized on 10 Mar 1793. )

Plus another RIDER/RYDER about 1806 possibly her father William.

I have checked the online transcriptions which only start in 1813.

If possible please include the LDS/GSU film and frame numbers.

Leicestershire / Charles LOVETT - Elizabeth NEWBOLD marriage Jun qte 1849 ?
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 18:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I suspect that this marriage took place at Mountsorrel.
Please can someone confirm, and perhaps tell me if either party had married before?
I think Charles was son of James LOVETT & Sarah HEAP; but Elizabeth's ancestry is more of a mystery.

The couple seem to have had a son born June qtr 1847 registered as James Lovett NEWBOLD;
mother NEWBOLD. Was he baptized at Mountsorrel ?

James married at Sileby as James Newbold LOVETT, and census records show he was born at Mountsorrel.

These folk may not have been CofE.
At least one grandchild came to Canada.

Pembrokeshire / TREEBY death's Pembroke Docks
« on: Wednesday 25 January 17 20:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

From the new GRO indices I have :
TREBY, EDWARD       23     Order
GRO Reference: 1849  M Quarter in PEMBROKE  Volume 26  Page 533
TREBY, WILLIAM       9     Order
GRO Reference: 1849  M Quarter in PEMBROKE  Volume 26  Page 533

These were brothers and the older boy should have been recorded as Edwin NOT Edward.
I am wondering if there are additional local records ( Burial and or Newspaper ) ?

Another brother married two of my blood relatives; one in Kent the second (unlawfully) in Essex.

Yet another brother joined the US Union Navy and died a Confederate POW in Texas.

TIA

Leicestershire / family of Alfred BLACK & Harriett Elizabeth THOMPSON
« on: Tuesday 10 January 17 20:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Everyone,

I am attempting to find descendants of
Alfred BLACK & Harriet Elizabeth THOMPSON who married in the March Qtr 1881.

Currently I know of 5 children born at Loughborough, LEI
( There may have been others who were born & died between Census. )
Note also that the family were likely Baptists.
Those I find in Census records are :
Alfred BLACK                 born Mar qtr.1882 m. Mary Ann CULLEN
John Henry BLACK          born            1883 m. Fanny TAYLOR at Sherness, Kent
Albert BLACK                 born Mar qtr 1887
Harriett Elizabeth BLACK born Jun qtr 1888 m. Augustus Frederic STANILAND & Samuel HENSON
Ernest Arthur BLACK       born Jun qtr 1890 m. Emma Jane MARSTON

I suspect there was a child born between John Henry & Albert and after Ernest Arthur.
( Should have checked the Dove index when it came online.. sigh. )

I also have some of grandchildren from census records.

Can anyone help please.

Aberdeenshire / David COUTTS ?
« on: Wednesday 04 November 15 15:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I wish to find out which David COUTTS died at sea on the 14 Feb 1896 while returning to Scotland from Callao, Peru with his family.  The death record shows his age as 49, born Aberdeen.

His widow initially joined her relatives in Fife, but the family then moved to Glasgow.

David's marriage was in Peru; and all but one of the children were born there.
His youngest son was born 16 March 1986 at Leslie, Fife.

While in Callao David was a "Dock Master".
His was was Mary CAMPBELL b. 1 Apr 1861 at Paisley and she traveled to Peru in 1886 just before the wedding on 10 Oct 1886.  This date taken from the birth registration of the son born at Leslie.
The marriage and births of 5 sons do appear in the UK Consular BMD Indices.
I should order the Marriage Cert. because that should at least list David's father.

However there is a strong hint that his father's name was also David.

I wonder if :
- the 10 Oct 1886 marriage would have been mentioned in a newspaper.
- where David was at census time in 1851/1861/1871 & 1881 (perhaps at sea?).
[ I have looked but only get confused by all the possibilities. ]

Given that his wife was born in Paisley; I suspect he learnt his trade on the docks along the Clyde.

I have also attempted to trace all the David COUTTS born in Aberdeen(shire) about 1847, hoping to eliminate all but one without success.

Can anyone help ? FYI I live in Canada.

Cheers

Australia / Richard Gentry PATRICK & Annie PATRICK (Born BROWN).
« on: Monday 03 November 14 15:21 GMT (UK)  »
G'Day All,

I believe this couple died in NSW and would like to know more about their activities in Australia.

They marriedin 1897 in Hackney, Middlesex, England and were in England for the 1911 Census.

However Richard was born in 1859/60 and died in the Redfern District of NSW in 1922.
(Parents names are correct.)
AND it is possible that Annie, born abt 1875, died in the Auburn District of NSW in 1937.
(Fathers name is correct mother should have been shown as Catherine.)

Currently I know of NO children to this couple; and have not yet discovered any close relatives in Australia.

I have attempted to use TROVE to locate newspaper death notices without success.

Please can anyone assist with locating their burials ?

And if possible discover how they earned their living in NSW.

In case it helps Richard was an Army Pensioner when they married.

Cheers

Hertfordshire / Please help find Mary Ann BADCOCK nee GENTRY after marriage.
« on: Sunday 05 October 14 00:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi from Toronto, Canada,

On 22 June 1861 my relative Mary Ann GENTRY married John BADCOCK at Cheshunt and I have not found the couple after that.

Mary Ann GENTRY was Baptized at Hunsdon, Herts. on 9 Jun 1831.
John BADCOCK was born abt 1830 at Abingdon, Berks.

Both worked in the Drapery Trades; as did John's father (Richard) and siblings.
They seem to have been based at Abingdon but seem to work over a wide area.

It is possible that John & Mary Ann BADCOCK emigrated.

It is also possible that they had children in England; perhaps baptized at Abingdon.

Can anybody find a clue for me to follow-up on ?

Cheers
