Other Countries / Chinese ancestry: Liu (South China) Birth/Death/Immigration
« on: Friday 09 July 21 14:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have Chinese ancestry, quite likely to be from the South of China.

My grandfather Hing K Liu on my mum's side was Chinese as was his father but I am struggling to find any birth/death or immigration records for either person despite Hing being married in London in 1964.

My grandfather Hing K Liu was said to have died in 1977.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Terri

Scotland Resources / Scottish Surname Look Up: Anderson / Weir - ANY info
« on: Thursday 08 July 21 11:41 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I would like to learn more about my Scottish ancestors.

The Weirs appear to have links to Hay Hill Farm, Cadder and Barmulloch Farm, Glasgow which I am keen in hearing more about.

I am looking for information on their wives, children and any addresses they're linked to.

I believe William Findlay Weir was a Scottish professional footballer and later joined the Royal Engineers where he was posted to the Western Front. William rose to the rank of Sergeant and I am interested in hearing more about his military career.

John Anderson son of George Weir Anderson married Sarah Nimmer Hood Stewart on the 5th of October 1939 in the District of Blythswood in the Burgh of Glasgow. He was 27 years old at the time. John's profession was listed as 'Leading aircraftsmen, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as 'Royal Air Force Station, Montrose'.

On the 10th of September 1944 John and Sarah had a baby (now deceased). At this time, John's occupation was listed as a 'Sergeant, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as '169 Shamrock Street, Glasgow', which I believe were barracks.

Kind regards

Hi all,

For the past few years I've been trying to research information on my mother's side of the family. In this time I have only found very little information (see below) and am now considering whether to getting a professional genealogist to look into this for me?

John Anderson relation to me; great grandfather
  • Son of George Weir Anderson
  • Married Sarah Nimmer Hood Stewart 05/10/1939 in the District of Blythswood, Glasgow. He was 27 years old at the time. John's profession was listed as 'Leading Aircraftsmen, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as 'Royal Air Force Station, Montrose'
  • On 10/09/1944 John and Sarah had a baby who they named Doreen, at the time John's occupation was listed as 'Sergeant, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as "169 Shamrock Street, Glasgow"
George Weir Anderson relation to me; great great grandfather

  • George W Anderson and Jean Weir married 27/10/1910 in Blythswood, Glasgow. George was 21, the son of John and Margaret.
    Possibly born 15/06/1889 Scotland

relation to me; great grandfather
  • Married Doreen Anderson in East Ham in 1964
  • In the same year they gave birth to a baby girl

Thanks

Terri

Scotland / Looking for information: John Anderson, son of George Weir Anderson
« on: Wednesday 01 March 17 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for some information on my great grandfather John Anderson.

I have acquired a copy of John's marriage certificate as well as his daughter's (my grandmother's) birth certificate.

This has provided me with the following information:

John Anderson son of George Weir Anderson married Sarah Nimmer Hood Stewart on the 5th of October 1939 in the District of Blythswood in the Burgh of Glasgow. He was 27 years old at the time. John's profession was listed as 'Leading aircraftsmen, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as 'Royal Air Force Station, Montrose'.

On the 10th of September 1944 John and Sarah had a baby who they named Doreen Anderson. At this time, John's occupation was listed as a 'Sergeant, Royal Air Force' and his usual residence was listed as '169 Shamrock Street, Glasgow', which I believe were barracks.

I am particularly interested in finding out when/where John was born and when/where he passed away. I would like to request John's service records but do not have a service number for John.

Unfortunately, neither my great grandparents or grandparents are living and my mum has no information to assist us.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi,

What details should I first obtain before endeavoring to search for somebody in the immigration records?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Or do I have to quote their text?

Thank you,

Terri

My mum lived with her mother as a child (although she was in and out of care during this period) and has never met her father. When her mother died she went to live in a children's care home. My mum would really like to find out some information about her father and grandparents on both sides of the family but doesn't know where to start.

We have very limited information to go on however we do have a copy of her mother's death certificate and marriage certificate.

The information I currently have is provided below -

Her mother's full name maiden and married name
Her mother's date of birth
Her mother's date of death
Her mother's place of birth
Her mother's place of death
Her mother's last address
Her father's full name
The date that her mother and father got married and the district of London that they were married in
Both of her parent's father's name and surname
Her parent's residence at time of marriage

If anybody could steer me in the right direction as what to do next that'd be great! It may also prove useful to know that my mother's father is a Chinese immigrant and her mother originally from Scotland.

Kind Regards,

T Gill
