Derbyshire / lost relative
« on: Tuesday 13 March 18 13:59 GMT (UK)  »
My Dad,s cousin was given away when he was a baby to a family in Derbyshire even though he was wanted by his aunt. He will be 80 yrs old this year, and my Dad wonders if he has had a good life. I can't find a death for him so if he is still alive I won't be able to put his name on here will I? I saw a preview of the 1939 register on Findmypast which showed his name which I thought I wouldn't be allowed to see if he was alive. The family he was given to was Edward Shirley, Bakewell, Derbyshire, according to the 1939 register. Just wondered if anyone can shed any light on the Shirley family.
Thank you

My husband,s gt uncle William Liddle on the 1911 census it says he is pensioned through accident to his eyesight. He was a coal miner hewer. On the 1901 census it says he is retired coalminer hewer at the age of 33yrs. So he must have had his accident before 1901 but I cannot find anything about the accident as I don't even know which pit he worked at. He was living at 46 Bowlby Street, Houghton-le- spring at this time. Can anyone help me please?
Thank you

My gt gt grandma,s brother emigrated to Wichita in the state of Kansas. He went in July 8th 1882. He was single when he went, at some point he got married to a women 26 yrs younger than him.  I found a record of him requesting to return to England with his wife Isabella S Shepherd to visit his mother in 1920.  On the form he says his wife was born in Durham England. Also on the form he says he had not left America in the 37 years he had lived there so I think his wife must have been a British Immigrant as well. I was wondering if anyone could find out his wife,s maiden name. I found photos of their graves on one of the grave sites where they are buried in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. They never had any children. He was born 8th August 1849 in Co Durham England,
Thank you

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / need someone to point me in right direction

My husband had a uncle who left the family sometime in the 1950s and went to live in Doncaster and no one in the family heard from him again. My late father - in-law said he was a queer character. I am researching my ancesters and my husbands and I found out when his uncle died and sent for his death certificate. We found out from his death certificate that he died in Doncaster in 1996 and it looks like he never married. He must have been in a home as on the certificate it gives the name of the person causing the body to be buried and says her address is Social Services Council House College Road Doncaster.. So I emailed Doncaster Council to see if they could point me in the right direction to find any records about him but they did not reply which I suppose is understandable as they will be very busy. All his siblings are dead and we do not even know what he looked like.
So I wondered if anyone on this site could point me in the right direction.

Thank You.
