The Common Room / Stealing Deal Board
« on: Thursday 31 October 19 23:13 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone has heard of this before, I have read, unfortunately in a Criminal Record form 1852 that my G Grandfather was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for stealing 5 pieces of Deal Board. I have no idea what this is - he is listed on the 1851 census as an Agricultural Labourer. has anyone heard of Deal Board?

On the 1851 Census my ancestor Mary (Married surname Mawson) is Recorded as being born at Yorkshire - Sillhouses. She is widowed and living with her son George Mawson and family.
On the census the handwriting Sillhouses looks like all one word and on the transcribed record it is written as two words Sill Houses. I have tried to find this place but can find no record in old place names etc. has anyone any knowledge of what or where this place could be. She is 81 on the census so born in this place around 1770. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a marriage to her husband also called George Mawson so I have no maiden name to look for a birth record which may have had details of place name etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cheshire / Ann Dimelow / Joseph Sanders or Saunders
« on: Friday 19 October 18 16:36 BST (UK)  »
Hope you can help - I’m looking for the birth of Ann Dimelow which I think would be around 1770 ish as she married Joseph in March 1793 at the Holy Trinity in Chester. None of the marriage details give any reference to parents on either side, so I am stuck. Any ideas of other records I could look up? She had 3 children, the first Elizabeth in Tarvin, Cheshire, then two sons John and Joseph in Warrington. Thank you.

Antrim / JAS ABERNETHY (Antrim, Ireland) PASSAGE TO CANADA POST 1856 ??
« on: Thursday 20 February 14 19:06 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to ascertain when Jas Abernethy (JAMES) b. Ballinderry, Antrim 1811 suppposedly went to Canada?? Must have been after 1856 because his youngest son Samuel wasn't born until 1856 in Aghalee, Antrim. His wife was Ann Jane Ferguson b.Ireland 1851.

The family appears on the 1851 census in Ireland all in Aghalee, Antrim but I can't find them on an 1861 census  - Can anyone tell me when the next Irish census would have been after the 1851?

« on: Wednesday 19 February 14 22:05 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have any knowledge of an Eliza Magee b.Ireland 1850 - Same person may be Elizabeth Downie. Not sure if she married twice. She is shown on marriage to Samuel Abernethy in Arlecdon in 1877 as Elizabeth Downie (father John Downey) but on their childrens baptism records shown as Eliza Abernethy Magee ?? Why would she show 2 names?? Are these the same person. A marriage between Samuel Abernethy and Eliza Magee cannot be found in Ireland or Arlecdon.
