Scotland / Birth details for Thomas Pyle
« on: Thursday 20 December 18 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for help tracing the birth details including father and mother details, of Thomas Pyle. I have the following details so far.

Thomas Pyle marriage 18 July 1829 to Harriet Kirtley in Bishop Wearmouth, Durham.

1841census Matthews Street, Kelloe, Durham

Thos Pyle 58-62
Harriet Pyle 50-54 b Scotland
Thos Pyle 11 b Durham
Mary Pyle 9 b Durham
Edward Pyle 3

In the 1851 census his wife Harriet was shown as a widow so he must of died between the two census.

The 1841 census suggests Thomas was not born in County Durham but his wife was born in Scotland so he may have been born there as well.

Any help would be appreciated!

Durham / Searching for Pyle family members
« on: Monday 12 November 18 18:18 GMT (UK)  »
RootsChat covers such a variety of things to do with tracing family information that I thought I would ask if there is any member out there with or without the surname Pyle who has a connection to my ancestor Thomas Pyle who was murdered at the Redhills path in Durham in 1882. His murderer Peter Bray was hung in Durham Jail in 1883. Thanks!

World War One / PTE T W Pyle - Essex Regiment No: 36760
« on: Saturday 27 October 18 13:36 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information on my ancestor PTE T W Pyle who served in the Essex Regiment  sometime during the first world war 1914 - 1918?
All I know about him is shown on a allied victory medal with his rank, name, number and regiment.
I have been invited by my local council to lay a wreath on remembrace day, Sunday 11th November, to his honour name but when I went to see if his name was listed on the memorial stone showing the soldiers killed in action in WW1 his name was not listed. I have also try to find his name listed in any records I can find to do with the Essex Regiment for that period without success.
Any help would be appreciated!

My ancestor, Thomas Pyle, was murdered in Durham in 1882 and his killer was hung in Durham jail in 1883. Before he died he was living with a partner and 5 or 6 children who were his and not his partners. So when he died his partner went elsewhere to live and the story in the family is that some or all of his children went into Dr Bernardo's care and were adopted by a lady in Durham with the surname Hodgson and as a mark of respect all subsequent children born into the family had Hodgson as a middle name including myself. I am trying to find out if these children were in Dr Barnardos care and adopted by someone called Hodgson. Has anyone any information that might help me. I know that I can contact Dr Barnardos direct but the search fees will be high for 5 or 6 children. Thanks!

Family History Beginners Board / Thomas Pyle - Tile Sheds - Newbottle
« on: Thursday 27 March 14 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find details of one of my ancestors. Thomas Pyle (senior). His son, also Thomas Pyle, was baptised on 17th January 1831 at St Michael's church Houghton-le-Spring. His daughter Mary Ann Pyle was baptised on 14th October 1832 at the same church.
Thomas Pyle was married to Harriet (or Harriot) Pyle and they lived at the Tile Sheds Newbottle.
Does anyone have any information regarding his birth. He would have probably been born between 1800 - 1810? Or his marriage to Harriet, probably between 1829 - 1830, which might give me details of where and when he was born? These dates are my best guesstimate. Thanks.
