US Lookup Requests / Ancestors in America
« on: Monday 30 June 14 13:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I am looking for any trace of my ancestors in America.  I hope someone could look up a census record (or any other record) for the following:

Thomas Cunningham.  Born 2nd March 1868 in Tuam, Ireland.  Emmigrated between 1886/1898.
Mary Cunningham.  Born 9th June 1893 in Atherton, Lancashire, England.  Emmigrated after 1898.
John Cunningham.  Born 26th September 1894 in Atherton also.  May have emmigrated after 1898.

Thomas was Mary and John's Uncle and it is thought they may have joined him in America after the death of their parents in 1898.

Thank you for reading this and for any help you may be able to provide.

John  :)

Lancashire / Family Mystery
« on: Tuesday 24 June 14 11:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

My grandfather Joseph Cunningham lost his mother Catherine Cunningham (Wilkinson) in 1897 when he was one year old.  The following year he lost his father John Cunningham.  Joseph was adopted by his Great Aunt, Eliza O'Neil.

Our family had thought he was the only child but I have just discovered he had three siblings.  Mark was born in 1891, Mary born 1893 and John born 1894.  All three were born in Atherton.  I have found a death registration for Mark in Atherton age 1 which fits with his birth date.

Therefore, when John Cunningham died in September 1898, he left three children.  Mary 5, John 4 and Joseph 2.  The family had moved to Salford and John died at 55 Basten Street.

So what happened to Mary and John?  John had a brother Thomas Cunningham (b. 1868, Tuam, Ireland) who may have emmigrated to America and is named as the god parent at Mary's baptism in 1893.  Could Mary have gone to live with him?

I can find no credible trace of any of them.  What would the authorities do with such young children in this situation?  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading this,

John  :)

Galway / Cunninghams of Tuam, Galway
« on: Saturday 19 April 14 11:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am interested in the Cunningham Family in Tuam.  Mark Cunningham (born around 1844) and his wife Julia (judy) Conally (NcNally, b 1839) lived near Tuam on their family farm at Lissavalley Glen.  They had five boys, Patrick (b 1860), Michael (b 1866), Thomas (b 1868), John (b 1870) and Martin (b 1875).  There may have been a daughter Mary (????).

Patrick, Michael and John emigrated to Manchester, England.  I have no other records for the rest of the family except for baptism records for Michael, Thomas, John and Martin.  They were baptised at Cathedral No 2, Tuam.

Has anyone researched any of these Cunninghams or Know anything at all about their lives in Ireland.

Thank you for reading this  :)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Ann Wilson in Liverpool
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 19:05 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information regarding the life of (Julia) Ann Wilson prior to her marriage to William Haslam at St Peters, Bolton 5th November, 1865.

She was born in Liverpool around 1840/41 and her father was Joseph Wilson.  The name Julia doesn't appear on any records and may be wrong.  There is a Ann Wilson at an Industrial School in Walton on the Hill in 1851, but I'm not sure if this is her.  Her life before 1865 is a mystery.

Thanks for reading this message  :)

Mayo / The Dowdle family from Westport, Mayo
« on: Thursday 17 April 14 15:54 BST (UK)  »
My G G Grandfather is William Dowdle, born around 1845 in Westport.  William's father may have been called Henry Dowdle, but I'm not sure of this.  William first shows on the census records in 1861, living in Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester.  It says he is 19, so his birth date may be earlier.  William is living with his Uncle, John Dowdle 69 and his sister Catherine Dowdle 25.  He may have travelled to England with his uncle.

William later married Catherine Poland in Manchester in 1866.  I am wondering if anybody has researched this family in Westport.  I have lots of detail of their lives in Manchester, but I'm not sure how to progress with my search in Ireland.

Thanks for reading this. :)
