Europe / Swiss Huguenot Records?
« on: Tuesday 25 May 21 16:50 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there are Swiss records online that may help trace Huguenot families as they moved between France, Switzerland and Germany?  Possibly pauper records? Migration records? I know in the Bern Canton they drew up lists of Huguenot families who either had to leave or were selected for citizenship?  So far I cannot find anything.

Europe / Transcriptions of Swiss Church Records?
« on: Tuesday 25 May 21 16:43 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if full transcriptions exist for church records (Baptisms, Marriages and Burials) in Switzerland?  For example the Bern archive has hundreds of church registers with all the images online for that canton - but no transcriptions.  The main genealogy sites only seem to have a small proportion of all Swiss records transcribed and indexed - and not Bern.

Europe / Swiss Huguenot Records
« on: Tuesday 25 May 21 12:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I am researching my French Huguenot ancestors and I have evidence that a Samuel CHERY was born in the Bern canton of Switzerland in the 1690s. Within 10-20 years he had migrated to the Huguenot town of Ludweiler (now in Saarland, Germany).  I suspect there will be no records to search in Switzerland as his family is likely to have been there for a short time and won't have been citizens. I can see Swiss Parish Records for Bern are all online as PDF original images - but not transcribed nor indexed - so searching the 100 or so "parishes" within Bern would be a huge task even if it was worthwhile.  Is it worth attempting this? Are there other migration or pauper's records I wonder? Many thanks in advance.

The Common Room / Uncertified Certificates in UK?
« on: Monday 15 August 16 11:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi - Is there any such thing as uncertified BMD certificates in the UK instead of always applying to the GRO for a full cost certified BMD certificate?  For family history purposes it is the information on the certificate that is crucial - rather than requiring certification for another purpose e.g. passport applications etc...

Europe / France : Parish Record Transcriptions in Lorraine
« on: Monday 03 August 15 10:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I need to search the Parish Records for the departments of Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle, both in the Lorraine Region of France.  I was delighted to find that image sets are available on the corresponding Archive websites.  I was wondering if anyone knew if any of these records have been transcribed or not ? I have sent emails to a number of French Cercle Genealogique groups but got no responses to date.  Otherwise my search is going to take a very long time!
Many thanks - Jonathan

Hi - I am researching the migration of Huguenot family CHERY from France (probably Metz) to Germany (Ludweiler - which is now Volklingen in Saarland) in late 1600s / early 1700s possibly.  Has anyone else researched this particular "Huguenot trail" before ? Any hints and tips ? I am new to French and German genealogical research.

Europe / France: Parish Record Indexes
« on: Tuesday 23 June 15 13:27 BST (UK)  »
Hi - Today I have discovered that two French Departments (Moselle and Meurthe et Moselle) have all their Parish Records online - which is great, except the scope of my search is now rather daunting ! Does anyone know what the state of transcriptions / indexing of French Parish Records is ? Or where such information may be held ? Many Thanks - Jonathan

Limerick / 1892 Marriage Certificate Order Online ?
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 16:26 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I wish to order an 1892 Marriage Certificate (RD Limerick) but not sure how to proceed. The Ireland GRO Office online ordering system says you can only order online post 1920. The Northern Ireland GRO Office online ordering system says you can only order for Northern Ireland.  So where do you go if you want an Marriage Certificate in Limerick for 1892 online ?
Any ideas much appreciated.
