South Africa / Du Manoir Loreto Thomas O.P.
« on: Wednesday 27 February 19 04:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information to write a short history about Rev. Loreto Thomas Du Manoir.
As a Dominican priest he served as a Chaplain during WW2 attached to the 4th SA Infantry Brigade; Number 10593V Lt. Col L Du Manoir . He was in Johannesburg in 1946.
I have no real information about him. He looks to be in his mid to late 30's at the end of the war in 1946 so I estimate he would have been born around 1910<> and perhaps, deceased by 1980-1990
Links or information about Rev. Loreto Du Manoir would much appreciated if anyone has time to help.
I'm not in South Africa and am finding that links that would usually be expected to show on google just are not there for me. Links that would be apprecciated would be to Deceased Clergy in South Africa Lists or to family genealogy that may be available.
Many thanks

United States of America / John Northover Washington State 1879-1932
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 07:51 GMT (UK)  »
I would be glad of your help to trace John Northover.
he was b 1851at Dooran Rock in in Donegal Ireland, son of John Northover b1823 Dorset and his wife Mary Samways b 1824 Dorset. We have already the families history.

John 1851 joined the British Navy 1866 and remained til 1879.
His ship was damaged 1976 and went to Vancouver Island Washington for repair. 3 yrs later he retired from the Navy.

The period 1879 - 1910 is a mystery. He seems to be living in America.
We are wondering if he married, had children, what he worked at? Can anyone help me solve this please. We are looking for American records from 1876 to 1910.

1900 census he is working as a stevedore, living pierce Tacoma.
In 1910 census, arrival in USA is stated as 1876 living Birch Bay Whatcom Washington fisherman.
In 1916 through to 1932, he is listed, annually, in US city directories at Bellingham, Whatcom Washington.
And appears on the 1930 census at Bellingham. no work. He did odd jobs for his neighbours.
He died in 1932, a very sad and lonely death at Bellingham. His obituary states he has been 48 years in America and 25 of those years at Bellingham.

{Note: I found a John Northover at Tacoma Pierce Washington married to a Nasqualli woman but his father is William and he appears on 1870 census Tacoma aged 10 with his father and family so, this one is not ours. Wrong dob and wrong father.}

Many thanks

Australia / Riddell family of Victoria
« on: Sunday 12 February 17 05:16 GMT (UK)  »
The Riddell family emigrated from Lanarkshire in Scotland out to Victoria Australia. Settled in the Melbourne area. I am having a lot of difficulty finding their records in Australia.
Francis John Riddell was born in 1913 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire and died in Victoria, Australia. He married Winifred Clara Gibson in December 1943 in Colchester.
Winifred's dates are 1918 Franby Yorkshire -1970 Melbourne area in Australia.
Emigrated 1951 with 2 boys. (*) b 1944 and (*) b 1948. he was a motor builder.
I don't seem to be able to find Australian birth or death records.
Could someone have a look for me please? or can anyone tell me where Australian bmds can be found ( preferably free ones!)? I have been researching on ancestry for a while without any bmd  records turning up.
thankyou.

Dorset / Jane Warner of the Dorset area circa 1840-68
« on: Thursday 09 February 17 04:27 GMT (UK)  »
This is really a long shot but I thought someone may know something!

Jane Warner received, from her Mother, in 1868 a large family Bible. This Bible came down to me from Dorset - hence the post, because that is really all the information I have about Jane Warner!

The Bible was bought by Finlator Cameron in 1789. He bequeathed it in his will to his son, Reverend Finlator Cameron, b1782 Kent- d1848 Louth in Lincolnshire.
Rev Finlator's wife is Charlotte Graves from Lincolnshire. She died 1848 in Louth. There are no children probably as they married later in life.
Currently I am searching for their Wills, which I may have to purchase.

Perhaps, someone may be researching a Warner family in the Dorset area and knows of a Jane Warner, or a Jane who married a Warner. She is probably born around 1840-50 and received the bible in 1868.

As I said, this is a long shot... Thanks for reading!

Lincolnshire / Finlator Cameron of Louth
« on: Thursday 09 February 17 04:02 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching Finlator Cameron born 1782 in Kent and died Louth Lincs 1847. He is a Reverend, a Minister of the Gospels, variously described and very successful at his work.
I am trying to find the burial/grave records and details from his will.
His wife is Charlotte Graves who died 1848 in Louth.

The will is held in the Lincs Archives and it looks as though I will have to buy it in. I found this record on find my past and wondered if someone would be able to look up the details for me.
<< Cameron Finlater 1847 Index To Death Duty Registers 1796-1903 >>

I have his bmd records etc and a family tree but would be happy to receive information about his ministry and life and family/ photos etc etc.

The reason for my research is his bible which he inherited from his father. I am hoping to find clues to its passage down the family until it is given in 1868 to Jane Warner by her mother. I have no information about Jane at this stage because I do not have details by which I can recognize her in records. Nor do I have her mother's name. The bible ended up in Dorset so it may take some time to follow the line from Lincs to the Dorset area.
Many thanks

Gloucestershire / Help requested: Pucklechurch Gloucestershire. Re: Lambert family
« on: Sunday 29 January 17 01:21 GMT (UK)  »
Good Morning. I have a George Lambert b 1728 and baptized the same year in Pucklechurch, Gloucestershire. Unfortunately, the church record book (via Ancestry records) for Baptisms does not record the parents.
George married Hannah Withers but again the parents names are not recorded in the online records.
Any suggestions as to how I might discover who George's parents were?
many thanks

This is an entry from a railway record book. The line I need help with is the first entry under Parkside. Critchley J. At the end of the line it states died then see ...... and a date.
Try as I might I cannot see or read the date or what it is one is to see.
Perhaps you have better eyesight than me or some means to clarify the text.
I will be most grateful. Many thanks

I was wondering if anyone lived close enough to St. Woolos Cemetery on Bassaleg Road, Newport to be able to pop over and take a photo of a grave for me? I have the details but no map. Thank you
