The Common Room / Electoral Register 1929 UK
« on: Sunday 14 May 23 20:36 BST (UK)  »
My Grandfather seems to have been recorded twice in the 1929 Electoral Register, both at his home address and what appears to be a business address ... anyone any idea why this would be please?

The Common Room / 1939 Register
« on: Friday 12 May 23 16:13 BST (UK)  »
On the 1939 Register, the part page that is visible on the right hand side can offer useful snippets of information about your relative but I find the coding there very confusing!

In this case against my relative's name and written in red (is this relevant?) is the letter C, enclosed in a square, and the number 76, also enclosed in a square. There is then a horizontal line from them leading off to the right across the page. Anyone any idea what this might mean?

Thank you.

« on: Wednesday 23 June 21 15:47 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me what the annotation means above the middle entry for James Nevitt on this extract from the 1939 Register please. Is it a correction of his d.o.b.? But what does the NUO mean? I know you wonderful people will help. Thanks in advance.

Hampshire & IOW Completed Lookup Requests / Where was hamlet of Pound on IOW? - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 24 February 21 17:33 GMT (UK)  »
In 1851 Census my relative Ann Fry was living in the hamlet of Pound near to Haylands south of Ryde. I can't find any trace of the name on any old maps so just wondered if anyone had heard of it or could point me to a map where it is shown? I can see that there is a modern road called Pound Mead which suggests it was around there somewhere, but still can't find it.

Many thanks.

For some reason my ancestor's surname was incorrectly recorded on his death certificate but then changed to the correct one. Can anyone tell me why there is a number 3 in brackets and a cross next to the mistake and then the word three at the far right of the record?

Can anyone tell me what the 'P' might mean written against some of the entries in this extract from the Parish Records of Middlewich, Cheshire.

Thank you.

I believe that the occupation of my ancestor here in the 1851 Census says "Sayer and Beer Seller". If that is right does anyone know what a Sayer is?

Many thanks.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / 1939 register
« on: Saturday 12 January 19 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
My ancestor seems to have two birth dates written on the 1939 register. Also something non standard is written in the marital status column. Anyone got any ideas?

Thank you.
