Aberdeenshire Completed Lookups / Inverurie Poor Relief Records
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 16:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Guys,

I wonder if anyone has access to Inverurie "Poor relief records"? I am looking for a record for Jane Allan (Jane Aiken), died aged 74 on the 28th November 1883 at 8 Blackall Road, Inverurie.  Her death was registered by the Inspector of the Poor.
I have no idea where she is buried, probably Inverurie in a Pauper's Grave.
Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Swally

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Inverurie / Huntly Memorial Inscription ?
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 16:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Guys,
I wonder if anyone has any Memorial Inscription records or graveyard records for Inverurie / Huntly area?
I am looking for details of an Alexander Allan, Vinter, who died sometime around 1829 -31.  As I have mentioned he was a Vinter in Huntly, I have a newspaper cutting from 1831 from a solicitor, James Brown of Huntly, who were looking for the creditors of an Alexander Allan in order to wind up his estate.  There is no will on Scotland's People and as he did not die Intestate there will be no court record.  I wonder if someone could have a look on the Memorial Inscriptions or graveyard records for this area in order to find more information on him.
I believe Alexander Allan was married to Mary Simpson and both died before statutory registration.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Swally

Aberdeenshire / Elizabeth Means Allan & Jean Allan, Inverurie
« on: Sunday 06 October 19 11:34 BST (UK)  »
Good Morning,

I'm back on the board after a long absence and wonder if anyone can offer any help.
My Great Great Grandfather, James Allan and his wife Jane / Jean / Aitken / Arthur, (born in Udny, more on that later), had a battalion of weans and there are two that I can't track down.  Elizabeth Mearns Allan.
James and Jane had 2 daughters - Elizabeth Mearns Allan Born 1838 at Chapel of Garioch and Jean Allan Born 1841 at Inverurie.  They both show with their parents on the 1841 census - but not with them on the 1851 census for Inverurie.  I cannot find any other trace of these two girls on subsequent census or marriage / death records.  It may be that they both died between 1841 and 1855.
Is there grave diggers records at the local cemetery that could be checked?
Thanks,
Swally

Lanarkshire / Newmains War Memorial (Stane Panel)
« on: Wednesday 04 January 17 20:21 GMT (UK)  »
Guys,

I wonder if you can help crack this one?

John McCarty – No Details is commemorated on the Stane panel of Newmains War Memorial.
Yet I can find nothing definite to connect him with Shotts / Stane

I have however found a John McCarty shown on the 1911 Scottish Census, residing at Whiteshawgate Farm, Avondale, which isn't really that far from Shotts?

Thanks,

Swally

Lanarkshire / Shotts War Memorial WW1
« on: Monday 02 January 17 11:41 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks to all who helped with my queerie on Kirk O'Shotts.

I wonder if anyone can help on this one for Shotts War Memorial?

The 1st one is a hard one -

All I have from the memorial is Boyd - RR Cavalry
very hard to search without a Christian name.

James   Haggart - I have found a James Haggart, born April 25th 1895, Glassary, Argyll, son of Malcolm and Mary, brother of Iain 1896, twins Neil  & John 1897, Isabella 1900.  His father was an Asylum Attendant and the family resided at Bowhousebog Road, Shotts.

There is also another James Haggart, born 1896 in Bothwell, residing at the Lunatic Asylum, Hartwood, near Shotts, according to the 1901 Scottish Census.  I can find no record of either of them on the 1911 Scottish Census staying in the Shotts area.

James, (who was born in Argyll), married Isabella Ferguson Watson, a 22 year old of 22 Ladyfaulds, Hartwood on 28th February 1922 at Calderhead Manse, Shotts.  James was residing at 24 Bowhousebog, Shotts at the time.

There are 7 James Haggarts listed on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website, there is nothing to link any of them with Shotts.

John   McCarty   No Details      - nothing to go on with this one.

If anyone can help, please do.

Thanks,

Swally

Lanarkshire / Shotts WW1 - Book
« on: Tuesday 20 December 16 16:40 GMT (UK)  »
Guys,

I am presently writing a book on the men from Shotts who served during the Great War 1914 -1919.  If you have any pictures of your relatives who either, stayed in or enlisted in Shotts during WW1, have any stories, newspaper cuttings I'd be willing to include them.

Thanks,

Swally

Lanarkshire / Waterloo Memorial Hall, Wishaw
« on: Saturday 23 April 16 16:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me when Waterloo Memorial Hall was erected?
I know that the local community fund raised for years to have it built after the war.

Any information as to it being opened would help.

Regards,

Swally
