Sligo / Kilhullen/Kilcullen in Co. Sligo?
« on: Monday 11 July 16 05:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

My great-great grandmother was born in Sligo, I believe. Her name was Mary, and her father's name as listed on her death cert. in Pennsylvania was John Kilhullen. She also had a sister Kathryn. My main question is about the name Kilhullen. I've looked around and I only seem to find the name Kilhullen in the U.S. I read a post by someone on another site saying that Kilhullen is a change in spelling of the name Kilcullen that happened after arrival in the U.S. Can anyone help me out on this? Should I be looking for records of Kilcullens in Ireland instead? There don't seem to be any Ireland records with the name Kilhullen that I can find.

Thanks for any help you can give. :)

Hi everyone, I was hoping I could get a bit of help in deciphering the place name in this marriage record. The general location is Skreen and Dromard, Sligo, Ireland.

What I can make out is: "Patt McGarry of Sheeanemore to Catherine Boland of ??, Wit. Darbey ?? and Beesy Ditts(?)" I can't seem to figure out the specific location listed for Catherine Boland. Thanks for any help you can give.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Help deciphering name
« on: Monday 23 March 15 04:23 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone,

I ordered a death record and I am not able to decipher the writing in the "Mother's Name" field. I'm hoping someone here can give me a hand. Every possibility I think of is incredibly odd and doesn't sound like any kind of name I've heard of, or even like it would be a name. I've attached a picture of the relevant part of the document; hopefully the photo is of high enough quality. The photocopy I received isn't the highest quality in the first place, so that doesn't really help matters. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks. :)

Hi, I'm looking for info on Moses McDonald. He married Mary Weissenfels, daughter of Frederick Henrich Weissenfels in Yorktown, NY in 1789. I do have a marriage record for them. Their daughter was Elizabeth McDonald, b. abt 1789, and she married John Hyatt.

I've inferred an approximate birthdate for Moses based on the three censuses I have for him (1800, 1810, 1820). He resided in Philips, Dutchess (later Putnam), New York. I believe, though I don't have confirmation, that his father was John McDonald and his brother was Aaron McDonald, both also of Philips. I inferred this relation based on their proximity to one-another in the 1800 census, so I may be mistaken.

I have contacted a couple of local history places for Philips and Yorktown, but have not received much of a response so far. Any advice or information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I'm looking for a Manchester marriage record for Reuben Bradbury (b. 1838) and Susannah Nicholls (b. 1836) both born in Manchester. The BMD index has it as Volume: 8d Page: 439 in 1859. Looking mainly for Susannah's parents. Reuben was the son of James and Elizabeth.

Thank you for any help you can give.

England / Catherine Carey b. 1875 in England
« on: Friday 20 June 14 06:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone. I've been at a brick wall for a long time with my g-g-grandmother Catherine Carey. She was born in England in about 1875, and she came to the US around 1886-1889 from what I've gathered. I have her marriage record in the US (to Frederick Bradbury of Manchester, England) but I can't find a death record, and I can't determine if any of the England birth records or censuses on Ancestry are hers because I have no idea what her parents' names were or where specifically she was from in England.

Any advice would be much appreciated.  :)

Sligo / Mary McGinnis/Collins? of county Silgo, b. abt 1868
« on: Sunday 15 June 14 23:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I'm looking for info on my g-g-grandmother, Mary McGinnis, who was born in county Silgo abt 1868. However, I have found conflicting sources listing her maiden name as Collins and Kilhullen as well as McGinnis, so I'm not sure what she would be found under in a birth record. I've also had conflicting info on her father's name, either Patrick McGinnis or John Collins/Kilhullen. Her mother was Jane Linny according to her death record. The name Patrick McGinnis is found in her obituary as well as siblings' marriage records, and John Collins is found on her own marriage record, as well as her own name being listed as Collins. John Kilhullen is found on her death record. As you can imagine this is pretty confusing. I do know these records are all of the same person, though. She immigrated to Carbondale, PA around 1876 and married John F. Peterson, and all of these records list him as the spouse and are located in the Carbondale area. So if anyone could find any records of her in Ireland that could point one way or the other, or any other info, that would be a huge help.

Thanks very much.

Hi everyone, since this is my first post here I thought I should make it on this board.

One ancestor I am doing research on is John Cunningham, who was born in Northern Ireland around 1747. He was a linen draper. The story goes that his father sent him to North America to avoid his being drafted by King George, and he landed in NJ/NY and ended up fighting in the American Revolution on the side of the states. He then married Rebecca Taylor (possibly born in NJ but that's a guess) and in 1809 died in German Flatts, Herkimer, NY. I have no information on his parents, or his wife's parents, so that's mainly what I'm looking for, but any and all info would be great. The info I have comes from an old Sons of the American Revolution application.

Thanks for any help you can give.
