Quaker Family History / Daniel Wheeler born 1771
« on: Tuesday 09 August 16 17:30 BST (UK)  »
Just wondered if anybody could help in a bit of research I'm doing. History books record that Daniel Wheeler, a notable Quaker, born in Mayfair London in 1771, moved to Sheffield (Handsworth Woodhouse) in the 1790s to join his sister who had become a Quaker. He married my 1st cousin 6x removed, Jane Brady. Just wondered if anybody could find out about Daniel's sister (like her name) and any other records for her. Both their parents, William and Sarah Wheeler, had died by 1783.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Sheffield pubs and Henry Humberstone
« on: Thursday 30 October 14 22:23 GMT (UK)  »
Can anybody please tell me what was the name of the pub at 27 & 29 Waingate in the Sheffield census of 1881.  Also the name of the pub at 43 Charles Street in 1901.  My cousin's husband, Henry Humberstone, worked at the Waingate pub before taking over the Plough on Broad Street and then the Three Horse Shoes on Norfolk Street.  His widow, Sarah Elizabeth Humberstone, subsequently took over the Sportsman on Cambridge Street.  She later emigrated to New York.  Also, I feel there must be an obituary for him in a local newspaper but have not been able to find one.  He died in November 1906.  Can anybody help please?

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Francis Carter Ball, Darlaston
« on: Monday 23 June 14 21:52 BST (UK)  »
Lookup help please.

My great great great grandfather Francis Carter Ball was born about 1811/12 in Darlaston.  In 1840 he married Hannah Whorton at Christ Church, Coseley.  Both were widowed.  Can anybody help with his first marriage please, or his father who was also called Francis Carter Ball and who had died before 1840, his occupation was nailer.

Also Hannah’s first Marriage to ? Foster or Forster.  Anybody know anything about him? (there may be a daughter Alice born about 1837).  Hannah Whorton was baptised at Darlaston St Lawrence 1808 and her parents’ names were William and Mary Whorton, William was a miner.  There looks to be another daughter, Marianne, also baptised at St Lawrence, in 1819.

Many thanks

Am I right in assuming that BTS did not apply to non-conformist registers? i.e. they only apply to C of E registers?

Family History Beginners Board / Edward Bing born about 1733 died about 1769
« on: Tuesday 17 June 14 21:35 BST (UK)  »
Can somebody help me to find the burial record of Edward Bing in about 1769, probably at St Peter's, Isle of Thanet.  He was a shopkeeper in Margate when he married in 1766 and his widow re-married in 1770.

Many thanks
